The Thing That Steps Through Saxa Wolves cram into Jana and Tobin’s home, bodies filling every inch of the downstairs. This house isn’t built for meetings. It creaks like it resents all the boots, all the breath, all the voices layered on top of each other. Wolves sit on the arms of chairs, on the floor, leaning against walls, pressed tightly into corners. No one is relaxed. They pretend, a little. A joke here, a snort there. But their shoulders tell the truth. Outside, the land is missing a piece. No amount of pretending changes that.

I press play. Clement’s face fills the screen, his skin sallow and covered in a film of sweat. Behind him, the pack house—my home—looks like a war zone. The windows are boarded up with plywood. In the background, I see a group of wolves hunched over a table, their eyes glassy, needles and glass pipes scattered among the pack’s ledgers.

Hannah whispered to him, giving him a small smile. “What do you want?” Asher yelled, turning to look at Knox. “Bad guy..what do bad guys want…money, power, control. Same deal. I want Red Woods…I want to destroy Cross River.” Knox said grinning. The hall door busted open, wood shattering out into the room. A large dark gray wolf came bursting through, flanking his sides were several other wolves, all eyes glowing white except the one glowing ice blue. New changes needed to be made and maybe this could one of them. Drake knew this new change, mixing the wolves and dragons, was dangerous. They both knew, but to live apart? It was too much. The new pack house would house both dragons and wolves with their bedroom on the upper floor. They would have to be careful of conflicts later on. Dragons and wolves had rival tempers.

Layla didn’t know what to expect for the wolves’ pack house, but once she saw it, it was different from what she would have imagine. The house was quite large and had the structure and feel of a cabin. It felt homier than Layla was expecting. Layla followed the others into the house and the inside followed with the theme of a homey cabin. It was very spacious and was two stories high.

His eyes met mine one last time before he took a deep breath and shifted. His bones cracked and within seconds, his wolf form stood in front of me. It was sleek, dark gray, and looked strong but it was smaller than Kaden’s massive brown wolf. Kaden’s wolf let out a deep growl, showing his sharp teeth before lunging again. Kellan’s wolf tried to dodge, but Kaden tackled him hard to the ground. They rolled over each other, teeth snapping, claws ripping into flesh. Kellan’s wolf managed to bite down on Kaden’s shoulder, but Kaden shook him off like he weighed nothing.

Another roar rumbled the Earth but this time it was not what sucked the life out of me. The men in front of my eyes had turned into monsters. Unnatural and terrifying big wolves. Not wolves... these wolves stood up like humans. "Oh, my Lord! Make it a delusion." I mumbled as my wits left me. The monster-cum-Jordan eyes fell on me when I tried to make an attempt at life. He snatched me up by the waist in his claws. "God, let it be a dream! Please!" I took a breath in to shout my heart out as my last ditch effort before death when another scream breached the cruel forest.

Silence followed—thick, deliberate, terrifying. I scrambled backward, breath coming in sharp gasps as shadows emerged between the trees. Yellow eyes. Gray fur streaked with blood. Wolves bigger than anything I had ever seen, but unlike the alpha this is average which only means the grey wolf is Alpha's beta Manuel. Their muscles coiling beneath their skin, teeth bared. My back hit a tree, nowhere left to go. I pressed myself against the bark, shaking so hard my teeth rattled. My legs refused to move. One of them stepped forward, massive and scarred, his eyes burning with recognition.

Dean’s POV continued- The cells are usually kept pretty dark. Since the wolves have better night vision it’s not a problem for them, but when we turn the bright spot lights on it sure makes it a lot worse for them too. We keep the observation area dark so the rogue can’t see everyone in the room. I decided not to tell Alec and Zander because, well, I still wanted to have a little fun. We got to the interrogation area and I held up a hand so they knew to hold back a bit, then I gave the signal for the lights. The flinching and barely audibly cursing coming from the wolves? Worth it. It took a second for them to recover and I tried my best to hide my smirk as Alec looked at me.
