I stared at her while making my eyes as sharp as knives before asking "Who are you, and how did you get in here? Do you know trespassing on this property can get you kicked out or worse....killed? Do I have to get one or two of the many guards at my husband's disposal?" "Um, i am here on orders ma'am, i am the house chef, i come here every wednesday and i cook food worth a weeks meal and i leave once i am done, it is not whatever you might be thinking, there is a guard at the door and probably somewhere else so you can be rest assured that i am here solely based on YOUR HUSBAND'S orders ma'am?" she said but i was stilll distrustful. "We have a housekeeper, and I am sure she cooks the food."

“I don’t think they’d find you. Or worse…they would.” Carrie snorted softly. “You’re being dramatic.” “I am not,” Shawn said. “I’ve seen horror movies that start exactly like this. Beautiful house. They moved together smoothly, setting dishes on the table with calm efficiency. Every year, a new girl is brought to the mansion as a slave and gradually ranks up to a servant till she becomes a house maiden which is the highest rank ever held by a slave girl. The slave is the lowest rank in the mansion and it’s usually held by a set of girls who were brought from the southern part of their region that is plagued by poverty, diseases and hunger. The servant rank is usually for girls who had served the house for more than four years, they’re believed to have more experience and insight on how to please the master. While the house-maiden rank, also called the House maids is held by girls who have spent more than 7 years in the house.

Ray had made it clear that the parents had warned them to stay clear of my path. I didn't want to lose my only job, I couldn't afford to. A few hours later, I had already changed Bryson's beddings, made Ray's bed and now I was unpacking. The room was pretty good for a housemaid like me. It had a canopy bed, dresser, Tv cabinet and a walk in wardrobe. I only had a few clothes, the closet was so big for my few old tees and sweats. I didn't own any jewellery, not even a single pair of earrings. Mmmh I'll just leave my clothes in the suitcase like before, and just take out my toothbrush.

Adriana grumbled. " Then test it if it's poison, have a taste and never taste food again in your life" Whix replied * " All maids should assemble with their cards too, I want all maids to assemble, not a single maid should be left out" Xavier ordered and in a few minutes, murmuring maids began to stream in. * Emilia's heart skipped some beats as she got the news that all maids had been ordered to assemble by Xavier. She knew that Adriana had been hit and that was good news to her but if the maid is discovered...

Even the blind can see MaryJane controls every maid here. Martha turns to us and jingles a bell. “Begin!” she orders. We rush to our counters instantly. She exits the kitchen. “Light the stove,” I tell Benita. She does. “Put a pot of water on it.” She hurries to do it. MaryJane beckons to a maid and whispers something in her ear. The maid gasps, then walks over to the two assigned to me and relays whatever nonsense she was told. They nod and return their gaze to me.

I needed to get a grip on my womanising before it ruined me. The sound of my phone ringing brought me out of my mind. It was my personal assistant, Clara who was apparently so excited to get me a housekeeper, so she'd finally have to stop doing housekeeping things for me. I don't blame her though, I know I'm a mess, which makes my house a mess most of the time too. "What's up, Clara?" "Good morning sir. I've spoken with the housekeeper and she'd be coming on Monday for the interview."

Chapter 2 The maid entered quietly the next morning. She carried a heavy silver tray and set it on the table beside the bed without a sound. Her eyes stayed low, respectful, the way people looked at someone who mattered. “Miss Tessa,” she said, voice soft. “Lord Adrian gave orders before he left. We are to treat you like royalty. He is out for the day, but every need of yours must be met. Whatever you want—food, bath, anything—just say.”

“Hello, hello, he said to me while Thelma was prompting me to answer him. I gave in after a few seconds of fear and doubt. Hi…uhm hello, I was stuttering. Whose is on the line please, he asked sharply. Oh sorry, it's Isabella. Your maid, Isabella. Thelma hit me for referring to myself as the maid. I don't know what she was expecting me to say. Would I have introduced myself to him as his girlfriend? Who wouldn't have his own girlfriend's number? Why doesn't he have my number all this while?
