“It is freezing! How can you even stand to hold it? And should it be that cold? Is that normal?” I glance down at the egg and say, “I believe so. Ice dragons are, as the name suggests, freezing.” I pause and sigh before adding, “though, honestly? I do not know. We men do not egg-sit, so to speak. And I certainly have never raised an ice dragon, let alone one of their eggs, so your guess is as good as mine. I hope that my mother will know what to do.”

I change into a pair of leather pants and a bra strapping my sword to my waist. While I'm changing, Flavius wanders around the room, lightly brushing his fingers across the many bookshelves I have carved out of the mountain wall. "When I thought of your room, I never thought of so many books. I thought it would be full of weapons and armor," he says jokingly. "I love to read, honestly," I respond. "I’m surprised, though; you even have books written in other languages," he remarks. "There is a lot of great literature that came from the elves and the fae. As a dragon, I am fluent in all languages. I only have to hear the language once, and I can speak it," I tell him nonchalantly.

I warn. As Flavius continues farther into the room, the SpitFires begin to crowd him, taking in his scent. These dragons, though small compared to me, are the size of large horses. Their tails flicker back and forth as they continue to sniff him. Flavius wades through the crowd of dragons until he comes upon a SpitFire much smaller than the rest.

Someone yelled, jerking his finger in the direction where the dragon was breathing ice and freezing some parts of the sea, making fishies get closely packed together as they died. The ice dragon was of an enormous size and wingspan with two large horns upon his head which pointed back to his heavy flapping bat wings. His body was scaly like a lizard and he had sharp spikes and a barbed tail. His eyes were the same color as the indigo sea. He was fearsome and hair-rising to Finlay's men but not to him even though it was his first time seeing the ice dragon. "Alexander," a middle-aged man kneeled on the ice, shivering.

I had to brace myself. “You planning on walking off?” he asked. “Not today.” “That’s reassuring.” I glanced sideways at him. “You don’t think I’d jump.” He studied my face more carefully then. “Should I?” I returned my gaze to the sea. “Do you think your dragon could catch me?” Silence. “Catch you,” he repeated slowly. “Yes.” “Why would I need to catch you?” “I read a book once,” I said. “About cliff diving. People leaping into water from heights like this.”

"No, Mama, you do not understand," Maple said, shaking his head back and forth very seriously. "The people who write books about dragons are just wrong about fire. They think all fire is hot. But snow dragon fire is like ice cubes. It freezes the bad guys into big rocks." Rosy turned a page in her book and pointed to a picture of a large brown bear. "Look, Maple. The bear is big. Like the tall man. Like our daddy."

She shot up to her feet, slamming her hands on the table which brought about a warning look from the librarian, “Do you know what you just did?!!!” “I told a loser athlete o— “No!!” She cried out, “That’s no loser athlete. That’s the Ice dragon!!” I couldn’t help but blink with bemusement, “The what now??” She started to sweat, pacing back and forth with a hand on her chest, almost like she was on the brink of a panic attack, “I…I..I can’t believe you just— “Just say it MJ” She breathed heavily, “That’s the ice dragon, otherwise known as Jace Carter!”
