“Illusion magic.” He snarled, and as his face contorted in outrage, the charred side began to weep, oozing a mixture of blood and pus. “They were never here.”
Almost on cue, the air began to shimmer a second time. Twenty feet away, towards the vacant thrones the crowd had been cowering around, the outline of a door formed. As it opened, my breath hitched. Hope so potent my head swam, began to build in my chest.
