"Do you want to live?" "...Yes." "Then come." The voice is not a voice. The voice is pressure. The voice is what it would feel like if a closed mouth could speak by changing the temperature of the water. The voice is the inside of a held breath. It does not enter my ears. It enters my chest, the way a tide enters a tide-pool, the way a hand enters a glove that has been waiting for it. I have hit the floor.

Like smoke seeping through cracks in a closed room. And I was beginning to feel suffocated by it. I leaned back into the couch and pressed my palms against my face. “What are you doing, Vivian?” I whispered to myself. The question hung in the air. Heavy. Unanswered. Two voices rose inside me immediately. They had been there for weeks now. Growing louder. Stronger. More persistent. The first voice was soft. Emotional. Honest. Tell him. My fingers curled tighter. The second voice came quickly.

a voice whispered, not from her ears but from deep inside her mind. Her heart skipped a beat. It was familiar, yet alien. A soft, ethereal voice that called to her in a way that felt both comforting and terrifying. “Evryn, come closer.” Instinctively, her body reacted before her mind could process the words. Her legs carried her forward, each step heavy with an unseen force. The voice called again, louder this time, beckoning her deeper into the abyss. "Come to me," it whispered. "You have nothing left to fear."

I had no will whatsoever, I had tried and that was the best I could do. “Is that really how weak minded you are? Is that really the best you can do.” The voice was low and distant, but I heard it clearly, as clear as day. Who is that? “You try only what, a few times, and you're giving up? I almost hate hate that I love inside of you.” The voice said again, putting me into a state of confusion. Living inside of me? Am I of two different personalities? “You're not of two personalities you lazy cow, I live inside your head, so don't be surprised I can hear your thoughts.”

"They don't smell right. Don't open the door." Standing there, holding my hand above the door handle, I hesitate. Over the last few weeks, the voice inside my head has been saying the things that I wish I could say out loud--my secret inner thoughts, my fantasies, and my darkest desires. This is the first time that the voice inside my head has given me a warning. Something is going on here, something unexpected. Am I finally getting my wolf?

"It just happened. One moment, I was feeling overwhelmed by everything going on around me, and then... something inside me snapped. I felt this surge of energy, and before I knew it, I was doing things I didn't know I could do." They listened intently as I recounted the events of the day, including the strange voice in my head. "It was like someone else was guiding me," I explained. "This voice, it told me what to do, or rather it merged into my soul, and sort of controlled my movements. I wasn’t really the one who had pushed Chyra. It was the voice. I don’t know what it is, but it felt familiar and at the same time strange, like a lost old friend would feel like." There was silence.

I closed my eyes and tried to steady my world. ‘It’s okay. It’s okay. It’s okay.’ I whispered in my head. Never in my wicked life had I seen my life going this way. ‘It’s going to be okay. It’s going to be just fine. You are smart and strong, you can do this.’ My inner voice, my best friend, pitched in. I took another breath and opened my eyes. “I do.” But I was not sure if I had said it out loud so I said it again, much firmer and louder.

My mind roared, and suddenly I had a grasp of my inner self. No more would I be the boy that people oppressed! No more would I be the boy that girls reject! And no more would I be the stepson that gets maltreated by his wicked stepmother. "Firstly, you need to learn how to use your powers," a familiar voice thundered. I looked around but couldn't find anything or anyone with me. "How do I do this?" I groaned inwardly, and I was shocked once more when the familiar voice spoke again. "Focus! Just focus. Let your mind teach you ." The voice in my head blasted, and I paid attention to every word. "Let your mind direct you," it roared again.

I needed a plan, a way to outwit these pursuers who seemed hell-bent on catching me. I spotted a classroom door slightly ajar, my last chance at sanctuary. This time, I handled the doorknob with more care, praying it would yield to my desperate attempt. The door creaked open, and I slipped inside, closing it quietly behind me. The room was dimly lit, rows of empty desks, and the scent of dusty textbooks hung in the air. As I scanned the room for a place to hide or a means of defense, that strange inner voice echoed once again, "We are going to kill them all." It was as if another entity resided within me, an entity far more ruthless and determined than I ever imagined myself to be.

“That’s putting it mildly.” “I suppose it is.” He softens his tone. “What I mean is that you have a perception of your wolf based on that one experience. But what you need to remember is that your wolf has been with you your entire life. She’s been guiding you toward me. If you think about it, you’ll realize that she’s not evil or bad.” I let out a breath slowly. “That makes sense. I’ve always had this inner voice, something that was more like an instinct. I thought it was just me trying to make the right decisions.”
