“That’s putting it mildly.” “I suppose it is.” He softens his tone. “What I mean is that you have a perception of your wolf based on that one experience. But what you need to remember is that your wolf has been with you your entire life. She’s been guiding you toward me. If you think about it, you’ll realize that she’s not evil or bad.” I let out a breath slowly. “That makes sense. I’ve always had this inner voice, something that was more like an instinct. I thought it was just me trying to make the right decisions.”

His voice was thick with mockery, with ownership, with the kind of cruel confidence only he could wield. I pressed my back deeper against the door and closed my eyes. For a moment, I let silence consume me, but silence was deceptive. It didn’t soothe, it only sharpened. Just like it was amplifying my inner chaos. The longer I stood there, the louder my mind replayed every second of what had just happened.

The hum of insects, the rush of water, I had never felt full of life and power before. And then, faintly, a voice. Finally, it said. I spun around, heart hammering. “Who’s there?” Nothing. Only the rustle of the trees. But the voice hadn’t come from around me. It had come from within. I pressed a hand to my chest, breathing hard “No. No, this isn’t—” Yes, the voice murmured again, softer this time, like a thought brushing against mine. “You hear me now.” My knees weakened. I fell to the ground, staring at the forest floor as a rush of warmth flooded my veins. It wasn’t pain, it was something older, deeper. Recognition.

She pursed her lips together. “I said, who are you?!” She asked furiously. A sarcastic laugh echoed once again as a familiar figure appeared in front of her. Her mouth went ajar as the silhouette became more defined in her eyes. “I am you.” The soft voice said as the figure, who looked exactly like her, also spoke the same words. Her spine shivered as it smirked at her mockingly. “Why are you so surprise? I am your inner self, can’t you tell?” She told her.

I had no idea how I knew this, but a silent voice in the back of my mind told me it was possible. I close my eyes, trying to concentrate. Silence everything around you, the voice said. Flip through and sort everything like a page in a book or magazine. Choose what you wished to remain in the background and what you wish to hear. Focus on that sound alone, sister, until it fills your ear, lower the volume you wish it to be. I did as the voice instructed, following each of her softly spoken words, as relief filled me when the sounds became quiet and the throbbing in my head ease a bit.

I inhaled. Deep. Steady. And just as I opened my mouth to choose. the thing inside me moved. not pushing. not forcing. speaking. And the voice that came out wasn’t mine. “You already belong to me.”

This is the single most humiliating, mortifying, intimate moment of my entire life. And gods, I am so comfortable and warm. The part of my brain that isn't screaming in pure, blind panic is luxuriating in it. It’s a tiny, treasenous voice that whispers, This feels good. Stay here. Stupid inner voice doesn’t have any clue what’s good for me. Listening to it will lead to no end of trouble. I give up on subtlety. I plant my feet on the mattress, gather all my strength, and shove.

The Voice Inside There was a voice inside me. I didn’t know when it had started speaking, or if it had always been there, small and quiet like a seed under the dirt. But lately, it had begun to grow louder. It didn’t speak in full sentences. Not always. Sometimes it was just a feeling. A tug in my chest. A shift behind my ribs. It told me when to run. When to stay still. When to speak. When to bite my tongue.

The same voice that I heard this morning, cold and vicious,talked to me suddenly from inside of my brain as I kept thinking. I was trembling with fear and anxiety as well as anger as I heard the voice again. "Who are you?" I replied within my head,trying hard to communicate with whoever it was. "I'm your inner wolf. At last you got me within you!" I heard the most vicious chuckling voice, laughing throughout my whole existence! My head was bursting with devastating pain as the voice spoke, as if my brain would tear apart! I felt a strong existence of something devilish lurking inside of me as if trying to come outside without any notice!

He was here somewhere, he would find me instantly if I left, he said sarcastically, "If you don't come out, my inner voice won't find you." I looked left and right, not knowing what to do. My heart slowed down as if it was making its last beat, I lowered my head, and when I bent down at that moment, a voice came from my right, and I immediately turned my head there with all my attention. There was nothing, there was nothing. I couldn't help feeling like a loser trapped.
