The King's Queen Novels & Stories

My warriors tell me that Alrich has gone into fits of jealousy but he’s not done anything to harm anyone. There are still no clues to who murdered those girls but, so far, there hasn’t been any murders. That releases some of my worries. My other worry is, Rachael. The King’s queen. We all thought that he had chosen not to have her as his queen but my spies, inside the palace, inform me that she’s there. Not only that but she’s pregnant.

“Try to keep an open mind, consorts and concubines and quite the norm in Faerie. The queen has several consorts and the king has many concubines. Amongst them is the Chief concubine and that’s what she was to him.” “This is insane.” She said. She couldn’t imagine her mother with any other person but her father. The talk of her being a concubine to another, no matter how welcoming the King had been was abhorrent. “Like I said, it’s a norm here. The truth is...” He paused. “What is it?” “The king’s concubine was actually The Winter Queen’s own sister.” “What?!” Her voice was getting louder and she didn’t think she could be any more shocked but she was wrong. “That Queen?!”

The silence that followed was absolute. Slowly, Karlo turned around. The expression on his face wasn't anger, it was a completely blank, hollow, void of pure, unadulterated carnage. The ruthless king who had built an empire on blood had finally revealed his single, fatal weakness to the world. He had tried to hide his little bird, but the hunters had smelled the gold on her gown.

Order POV I arrived as Chaos left. He preferred spectacle. I preferred… timing. The medical room was no longer quiet. It pulsed with tension. Sharp. Uncontained. The Queen stood at the center of it. Anger radiating from her in controlled waves. Not loud. Not chaotic. But precise. Focused. Dangerous. “If your son gets married without me—” Her voice cut through the room. “You will suffer the consequences.” The King did not respond immediately. Wise.

"But you, Frost... I'm not so sure of you are." The statement took me by surprise. In no way had I thought this conversation was going there. I remained silent as I carried on looking up at my husband's mother. "You're only eighteen, you barely left your house before you came here. Lord King Sorrow kept you well hidden behind doors and wall and protected you from the real world. Every single queen that sat next to the kings had to fight for their spots, train for years, read the laws and rules over and over again until they know them by heart and they were rational enough to let a king have strong heirs, even if it wasn't from their wombs. And then there is the case of your health..."

The queen removed her hands from the king's, jerking her head towards the one who had spoken. "What are you doing, my love? Get behind me!" The king whispered, scared when he saw his wife descending the throne stairs. He tried futilely to drag her back behind him. It was as if the queen wasn't in control of her senses, as she was solely focused on the one who had spoken. When she had reached the last stair, she paused, still keeping her eyes on the man in the middle.

Dev clarified as she cleared her throat. The marks were engraved there last night because the King was infuriated that he didn’t get to touch her. Xegris long since he prepared the extravagant chamber and last night he was personally kicked out of the room by his own bride. It must be too humiliating for him. Dev recalled the pain and exhaustion she experienced back then. She was threatened by the King to hurry the preparations but who knew it’d turned out like this? Dev wanted to laugh at the foolish King who was rejected by his bride. However, regarding the circumstances, she couldn’t. She had laughed to her content in secret though.

As I took two steps forward, I spotted her descending the stairs and halted at the first step. She froze midway, rolling her eyes and starting to turn back, but stopped when I cleared my throat. She didn’t miss the warning in my voice. Her shoulders stiffened, hands clenching slightly at her sides, focused on holding her ground. “My queen seems amused by her king’s beauty the way she always averts her gaze,” I said, a sly curl tugging at my lips. I observed her carefully as she snapped her head toward me and glared. “Oh, besides your other work, you also run the business of being delusional, don’t you?” she scoffed, crossing her arms over her chest, her voice wavering slightly. The heartbeats of the Lords were so fast and loud, I wondered if any of them could have actually done it. “So, Where is the Queen?” King Kael asked with an authoritative voice. “I will only ask once. WHERE IS SHE?!”

“Oh… it seems like it’s working already.” He poisoned me? I feel a coil wrapping tightly around my chest and stomach, crushing every nerve. “Ha!” I groan as pain crashes down on me. “You poisoned m—” Before I can finish the statement, my legs buckle and I stumble to the floor, blood already spilling out of my mouth and nose. They tower above me. “Good. By morning, the news about the princess poisoning her father-in-law and then poisoning herself will have spread through the kingdom. And I will emerge as the new Alpha King with Delilah as my Luna.”
