I can't seem to think past the ache in-between my legs, talk less of forming coherent sentences. Images of him pinning me to this very wall, tearing my clothes off and pounding into me in the most feral way possible fill my head till they're all I can think about. But the asshole steps away, a smirk on his face. One that I'm sure will haunt my sleep tonight. “So, Little Trouble,” he begins. " I'll have you understand the full story behind the curse that's on our bond." He fishes a huge dusty book from the cupboard and places it on the table.

“You’re not a dragon! You’re a person! Obviously.” He snickered at her, his perfect lips pulling up into a snide smile. “At the moment, that’s true. But I can be a dragon again any time I’d like. Nya, I’m a shifter.” Her eyebrows shot up as again she tried to process what he was telling her. That wasn’t possible! Shifters had faded from the earth many years ago, when the Heart of Magic went missing. Rumor had it that the gemstone was being kept in the evil kingdom of Beelzanborg, but Nya had no way of knowing if that was true. Regardless, shifters were no longer in existence, so this person standing across from her, this Slate, had to have lost his mind.

But I was faster. I twisted its arm behind its back, forcing it to the ground. The shapeshifter let out a growl, its body contorting, trying to escape my hold. But I had it now. I could feel its pulse quicken under my grip, a weak thrum of life that wasn’t mine. “You’ve got nowhere to go,” I said, my voice a low growl. “Tell me where the real book is.” It snarled. “You think I’ll tell you?”

Just not for these two bozos’. I look back at Brianna and Ben and he was grinning. “You don’t scare me.” He says and this time he removes the gage on Bri and slams his lips upon hers. My dragon let out a roar and Ben turns to stare at me in horror at the sound. This is it. I let my dragon take over as I begin to shift. I throw the other man away and he hits a wall on the other side. Watching Ben as I shift the look of terror on his face as he begins to slowly back away from Brianna.

“But… the full moon was last night. Did she turn into a werewolf? She would’ve had to.” Jack was shaking his head the entire time that Brock was speaking. He interrupted right as Brock finished. “No,” he said. “We found a way to prevent it from happening. She’s a shifter now, but she’s not a werewolf.” He hoped he hadn’t said too much, but since Brock was already suspicious, he felt like he needed to make sure he understood that Everly wasn’t dangerous.
