Life hadn’t turned out as any of them had expected, and to find a human installed in their shifter son’s home was probably an unwelcome discovery. They would be expecting him to marry a nice shifter girl before he became Alpha, and that had always been his plan until recently. Even before he’d become interested in Claire this time around, he had already been rethinking the whole shifter versus human paradigm, realizing it was causing a lot of problems in the world when they all sealed themselves off into their isolated communities.

From what I hear, they seem to value it very highly. When he finally stops, I also stop at a particularly thick book called Werewolves, Spires, and Shifters: Complete Edition. On the front is a picture of a menacing werewolf ready to devour a human and a human fighting a truly horrible Shifter with a strange spear. I pull it off the rest, hiding it behind me.
