The title of the book was, 'My Last Wish'. The book was about a beautiful poor and hardworking girl called Daisy. She was smarter than most in the Country of Envia, despite being a peasant. Her one desire in life was to visit the palace library. Like me, she had been an orphan, but unlike me, she had been adopted by an abusive family. One night, tired of the abuse that her adoptive mother's drunken escapades brought, she fled their cottage. On the road, she ran into the carriage of a nobleman, who took pity on her situation.

Aria's POV The sentence on my journal cover was written in handwriting I did not recognize. Small and precise and slanting slightly to the left, the kind of handwriting that belonged to someone who had learned to write carefully because careless writing had once cost them something. I stood in my doorway and stared at it and felt my wolf go completely still inside my chest. It said: The True Luna does not need a trial. She needs to shift.

As they drifted toward the Last Tree, each became a new leaf, a new possibility, a new dream waiting patiently for the future. The black crack slowly began closing, not because it had been forced shut, because its purpose had been fulfilled.
