The Lazarus Effect Novel Novels & Stories

Elijah was almost fully recovered by now. He really wants to find out more about the company that produces such a miraculous drug. Little did he know that it wasn't any company but actually Lila's house system that made it so effective. At this point Lila's backpack had disappeared. She had decided not to hide her abilities anymore. This people need to start gaining knowledge of these things. Seeing that everyone had gathered, she led them outside and conjured an SUV out of nowhere. The team were shocked, except Adrian who grinned like a proud husband, earning a stink eye from Victor.

While Gloria helped soothe Rose's nosebleed and calm Jasmine and Violet's shock, I dragged Lazarus out. "What have you done?" He shook his head grimly. "It wasn't supposed to be like this." "What did you manage to get from her memories, at least?" "That's another issue. I didn't find anything. It's like there's a fortress covering the gaps in their memories that I can't peek into." I gasped. "So, was it all in vain? You gave Rose a goddamn nosebleed!" "Do you really want me to help you or not?" Lazarus retorted irritably. His fangs that revealed themselves when he hissed didn't make me back down at all.

Status: AWAKENING. Somewhere in the dark, something heard Lazarus's cry before it was frozen. And now, it was coming to answer.

We didn't let the darkness win. END OF VOLUME ONE

The mist refused to lift from the docks, swallowing sound and sight alike. The air was damp, heavy with the stench of gunpowder and the coppery tang of blood. Soo-ah tightened his grip on his blade, chest rising and falling in controlled breaths. Across from him, Lazarus lingered like a phantom, his dark coat billowing with the night wind. “Strong,” Lazarus drawled, eyes glinting with amusement. “Very strong. But strength is only the surface. What I seek to uncover…” He tilted his head, smirking, “…is the rot beneath.”

Theresa was old enough to have experience, but looked young enough to please Salem’s eyes—two key requirements for a housekeeper in his home. “Where is Salem now?” I asked. A good feeding would soothe my nerves. “He’s not at home, my lady. I couldn’t tell you.” Grumbling, I headed to Salem’s library. Perhaps he had a book I could entertain myself with. Once there, I found a book lying open on a desk. It was titled Mythic Bloodlines: Lost & Fabled Lilitu. Curious, I studied an illustration on the open page. It depicted a trio of strange-looking women, just like the ones Salem had been painting all this time. The accompanying text stated:

he asked with a sigh of resignation. “Ben and Lila and… the vampires,” Jasper admitted. “The vampires know that you have zombie in you? How?” he asked. “I attacked one of them and killed them,” he offered. “That could have been the wolf venom,” Marcus mused. Guilt was clearly in his voice as Jasper admitted, “It could have been, accept I’d already created a formula to make them resistant to wolf venom. They get sick but don’t die.” Seeing the pack master’s eyes go wide with surprise and disbelief, he quickly added, “In fairness, I was their prisoner and had to do as they asked.”

I feel heavy and I think blood is dripping out of my nose, but I can't move my hands to find out. "Put him with the other successes of Project Lazarus." The professor tells him. All I can do is listen with my eyes closed. Whatever that drug was it made me useless and I think it magnified the pain of that machine that was attached to my head. "Yes, Professor." I feel myself moving, not of my own accord. "What is Project Lazarus?" Nova asks. The thought of telling her all the ugly and brutal things I did doesn't sit well with me. But I promised her honesty. "It was a group made for the successful recruits. We were trained and assigned to different top missions."

"You're too late. The lock is open. Lazarus just needs to push the door." I looked toward the cell and my heart stopped. The door was indeed unlocked. Lazarus stood on the other side, his hand on the handle, ready to emerge into darkness and freedom. Then light flooded the basement. Bright, intense UV light that made Lazarus shriek and throw himself backward, away from the door he'd been about to open.

Lazarus took a deep breath and then smiled “ I will tell the king the plan, and the girls will start elementary school with the others.” Smiling once more he bowed to his little girls and started to walk out the front of door but stopped and turned around to glance at his little children. Anna, Kaitlyn, Abby were crying but Jezzebelle was just standing with her head down in grief. Taking one last glance of his family, Lazarus swept his cape over his shoulder and disappeared into the night.
