Writing, that's the only one thing that keeps me sane. I doubled up my steps so as to hide myself from the eyes of people. "Finally " I whispered softly, as I opened the old rusty door of the Library. Mrs Lola, the librarian held on to a clipboard and marker, as she bent over to cross examine some books on the monstrous bookshelves that looked like they could collapse anytime. As usual I am the only one who comes into the library this early. She nodded her head briefly like an agama lizard, I didn't fail to get the signal. It simply means I will be with you shortly.

She peered down at me from her height, but she didn’t intimidate me. “Who are you?” I blurted out before I could stop myself. Her shoulders moved in motion as she tried to stop herself from laughing. “I am Mina, the head Librarian here. I’ve been waiting for you.” “Waiting for me? I don’t understand.” “I’ve been a librarian for nearly a thousand years my child, head librarian here for a few hundred, and we’ve never found anyone before. Before you that is, I’m quiet intrigued as to what you bring to this world. We could do with some change.” She winked at me.

Lizz said, furling her eyebrows in thought. “Well yeah, does seem odd…hang on, what did you call your boss?” Rex asked, changing his topic when he heard the words ‘curator’ like he had heard that title somewhere before. “Your idea of exciting and mine are two different things girl” Nessa said with a slight chuckle and an eye roll. Pinching her face to Nessa, she turned to face Rex, “She is the Head Librarian, Curator Ocron, she is in charge of the great library here.”

Asked the woman near him. “I’m replacing the late Mr. Herald.” By the look on their face, it seemed Mr. Herald’s name was unpopular among these women, hence Lucas elaborated. “I work in the library as the new librarian.” In the library, Mrs. Letty taught Lucas about how the ins and outs of a book, she also introduced Lucas to all the library staff. Which only consist of the head of library, two librarians (included himself), and one cleaner whose job also as manual worker.

And the list got halved, there were only two who didn't give books back to the library, a young girl and a mid aged man. She asked the librarian for the last favour, she wanted him to give the personal information of those two members like their house address or mobile number. The librarian refused to tell at first he said it's not in our policy to share the personal information with others. Jenny tried to give a good tip to the librarian and there he couldn't refuse. The school library is my small haven of peace. The old books stocked on the shelves are nicely arranged by the librarian, Ms Spinster. That's her real name. She's an old white spinster with a heart as black as ink. Probably the reason she's not married. I've never liked her because she's racist. It's precisely 11.00 am and I'm just seated on the wooden chair reading my notes.

Her tent was dark and thick unlike the others, so it was hard to tell if a lamp was on. However, when he walked in, she was sitting before a candle with a book in hand. She looked at him and flashed him a smile, and he thought she looked lovely and innocent. "What are you doing here?" Lexi asked. Karl moved to sit next to her. "So they now let you leave the library with books?" "The librarian is my friend. She trusts me with these books." Karl arched a brow. Meaning she had more than one. "What are you reading?"

And this scholar was her stepping stone. The white writing 'Librarian Assistant' printed on the long wood in front of him. In Ha tapped the table softly. A sweet smile plastered on her lips. The man stood and respectfully asked what she needed. After some time he looked for what Lilian asked, with an embarrassed face, he returned to her. "Excuse us, Miss. Although this library is known for its completeness, unfortunately we don't have the book you are looking for." He lowered his head and handed over the paper Lilian had handed him earlier.

The library was still open, but the librarian was just getting ready to leave. “Oh, what is Her Highness doing in the library at a time like this?” the librarian asked, poring over the rim of her pince-nez glasses. Madam Fern, the librarian, was a thin, irritable woman who looked like an underfed vulture. “Your Highness?” she repeated suspiciously. Clara, who had never imposed her authority before, asked in a kind smile, “I am thinking if I could use the library, please? And probably borrow some if I found any.”

Just a handful of desperate students down below, their heads buried in books and notes, the soft hum of fluorescent lights the only sound breaking the silence. But I wasn't here for the quiet or the musty smell of old pages anymore. No, I had been coming to these late shifts for years now, feeding off the sight of them. And it was the young guys hunched over tables, their bodies tense and unaware of my eyes on them. At forty-two, I looked the part of the proper librarian: slim build, neatly trimmed beard, wire-rimmed glasses perched on my nose. But underneath it all, I was a mess of pent-up lust.
