The five of us were trapped inside a magical net capable of nullifying our powers. “Shit,” Aris said angrily. Suddenly it began to shake, and goblins came out of the ground. They were different from the goblins that helped us in the wasteland; these ones looked smaller. Once they were all below us, one of them began to laugh. I knew right away that he was the leader. “This loot is very powerful,” the goblin said. “I wonder what we can do with them.” The goblins started laughing, and suddenly I saw my mother in the background.

Before we could argue further, a baby’s wail split the air, followed by Lucifer’s distressed voice: “I have this little goblin! You finish feeding the other one!” Selene and I looked at each other, mouthing, little goblin? “I didn’t even know he came with us,” I whispered. “Did he just shimmer straight into the house?” Selene frowned. “Why does he sound like… like the father of said goblin?” We crept inside and froze.

Glancing at the sleeping security guard and the silhouette of Lloyd waiting outside, I reassured myself. Inside, nothing happened. My fears, it seemed, were unfounded. I washed my hands and prepared to leave when a sudden, deafening explosion shattered the calm. The sound reverberated through the glass, making the walls tremble. Panicking, I turned to rush out, only to hear the ominous click of the main door locking behind me. The lights went out. "Lloyd! Lloyd!" My desperate voice echoed in the empty hall, met with only silence. A cold dread gripped me. I ran to the door and pounded on it, but it wouldn't budge.

The student glanced up but saw nothing above. Gildeon did. Ghulik was up there, clinging to the ceiling like some grotesque insect. Thick strings of saliva dangled from his gaping maw. He’d doubled in size. Veins bulged beneath his pale gray skin, pulsing like trapped worms. His eyes glowed crimson, the pupils now gone. ‘Ghulik!’ Gildeon called out, telepathically. Nothing. The goblin didn’t flinch. Its gaze darted across the crowd below, scanning for the next victim.

I made the mistake of looking over at Batiti and Shaylee fighting in vain to take the Nuckelavee down. Horror sunk in as I watched the creature lift an arm above it's head, swinging it's long razor claws down. The sharp pain in my side brought my attention back to reality as a Goblin sunk his blade into my side.

A gun would have been the best option, but her niece and nephews are usually around most weekends, so a baseball bat was the next best option and she made sure to always keep it just within arms reach. So, it was strange that when she reached out to grab it, and it wasn't there, then it clicked in her head, the missing baseball bat was not the only strange thing in the room, the floor was strange, her bookshelf was missing, the room was painted a different colour from hers. Instantly, it was like her head had been cleared of the fug that once clouded it, and it dawned on her, This was not her room. Just then, she heard a voice behind her.

But before it shut, the dark on the other side flickered once more—like a final spiteful peek. And I saw it. Not my mother this time. A shadow standing behind her, tall and robed, face hidden, holding a moon-silver blade like it was about to cut her loose… or cut her open. The shadow lifted its head. No features. No eyes. And yet I felt it smiling. The seam snapped shut.

Once they stepped outside, Lucas angrily threw the fake money on the ground. “Damn it! How dare they trick me?!” Meanwhile, I was secretly watching the whole scene and laughing my head off! … The following day, while Lucas was sleepy, I pretended to speak casually and said, “I heard there’s a big bag of money near the third pillar at the lakeside gazebo. It’s about to get ruined in the water.” When he jolted awake, I slipped into the crowd unnoticed. Lucas excitedly told Zoe about the news. She hesitated a bit after yesterday’s fiasco, but he insisted, saying an opportunity like this would not come again. They had to go and check things out for themselves.
