Her grandfather, Arthur Sterling did not like Alistair's ways. "You are right Dad " Avery said, her voice calm and strong like it was in the boardroom. She took a silver key from her fathers old watch case. The one she had taken from her pocket before leaving the penthouse. "Every great story needs a surprise.. You forgot that Grandfather did not leave the special vault to you. He left it to me." She put the key into a lock on the side of the book. A pitched sound came from the book cutting through the storm noise. The electronics on the truck behind Alistair started sparking. The red light on Alistair's detonator went out.

But all its pages were blank like nobody had ever recorded anything on it. Lennie quickly figured out the book was spell-protected. Someone put a spell on the book which required certain keys to read the secret in it. And the necklace she placed right beside her leg was just the key. That young, but gut-wrenching voice was still echoing in her ears. Lennie took a deep breath to get it out of her head, and then bent over a little to pick the necklace up from the floor. This time she didn’t touch the ruby pendant, but used the silvery chain to lift it.

She shifted the work table, and I saw the safe keep underneath. No wonder I had missed it; it was the last place my mind would be willing to go, but it had been found by a maid after I'd searched the whole house. Well, it was still good because now she has a lead. The maid handed me the book and said, “I assumed you forgot about this because of the accident; I didn't mean to intrude on your privacy, madam." I told her it was alright, and she looked rather relieved. “But how will you find the key? Perhaps you need extra hands?" I kindly declined the offer, telling her that I'd be fine and that if I needed anything, I'd be sure to call her, so she bowed slightly and left the room.

The battery on my front door smart lock died, so I called a locksmith to come over. While he was working on the lock, he made small talk. "Dude, this lock comes with six spare keys. Did you lock all of them inside the apartment?" I froze. I've lived in this apartment for three years. My wife and I each have one spare key. The other three were always kept in the hallway drawer. That makes five total. So where's the sixth key?

She glared at him. "Get the hell off my bike!" She screamed. This time she clutched on his shirt and tried to get him off, but of course he is a man! He is stronger than her muscleless body. "Why don't you just stop whining and give me the key? I swear, where we're going is a cool place," William told her. "If I die, Ima haunt your ass!" She warned him. She doesn't have a choice! He was being so insistent so she handed him the key.

We were made to stand under the school flagpole together, surrounded by teachers and students from the entire campus. In the middle of the principal's lecture, Morris noticed the cotton stuffed up my nose and the blood on my index finger, which had been cut by broken glass. His dark eyes narrowed slightly. "You lost?" I bit my lip. "I skipped breakfast. That's all. Next time, I'll beat him till he begs to stop." He paused, then said lightly, "Next time you get in a fight, come find me. I'll make sure you win." Maggie raised her hand.

My fingertips hovered slightly above the surface of the cover – looking back at the small golden key on my other hand. There was a slight hesitation in me, but despite that, I exhaled and touched the book.
