My story begins on 23rd July 2018..on the first day of my college Manipal University Jaipur. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” The girl in front of me was the opposite of my old roomie. Katherine seemed nice at first glance, but I could already see the extrovert in her. In my mind, Lucky’s voice had long since changed from arrogant and triumphant, to slowly realizing reality, to finally desperate pleading and fear. He had been left at the entrance of an orphanage, but before any staff could take him in, a drunken vagrant whisked him from the roadside and sold him for 600 dollars to a researcher in a white lab coat. The vagrant counted the money with a foolish grin and staggered off, leaving behind Lucky’s terrified cries and screams. Even as I boarded the plane, he was still crying out, "Mommy, I know that I was wrong! Please, bring me back to our country because I've earned you so much money!"
