Then I smiled. The kind of smile that makes smart men check for exits. “Wrong answer, old man.”

The man smiled slowly. “Well,” he said. “That changes everything.”

She seemed to be deliberately smiling at him. That kind of smile was very enchanting. The man lowered his eyes and curled the corners of his lips. “There’s no reason. I just thought of saving someone in trouble.” “If it was another person, would you still save them?” Chatty seemed to be very persistent on this issue. The man covered up his feelings with a smile. “Of course.” There was some awkwardness on his handsome face, but he could not resist looking at her with affection. He tried to restrain himself but to no avail.

I fought a smile but it broke through, he looked so damn old and adorable. I guess he sensed me looking at him and smiling because he looked up just in time to see my face, "I pray I'm the reason behind that smile," he commented, smiling as he placed the book down and closed it, giving me his full attention. I smiled even more, shaking my head as I reached for some more jelly beans and popped them into my mouth, chewing them to keep my mouth busy as I placed my elbows on the table and looked at him again, "this was refreshing," I told him as I looked around the still empty store and then at him again.

Every time my eyes met his, the smile on his face seemed to grow bigger, till he was full on grinning. “Still can't find the page?” “Everything's still all mixed up. Give me a minute more.” “Righttt.” This time around, he chuckled and I closed the book. “You don't have to search anymore, I've been entertained enough.” “You're an asshole,” I tried to glare but I could not keep the smile off my face. “Your asshole at least.” My heart skipped a beat. The smile on my face fell and the jovial atmosphere in the room seemed to cease. I dropped the book I was reading and cleared my throat as I stood up.

They reminded me of Alpha Grey, but they were gray. The biggest difference, though, was this man‘s smile. It came so easily, so naturally, like the sun rising in the morning and setting in the evening. It just happened without effort. In all of the time I was with Alpha Grey, how often did I see him smile? Hardly ever at all, and when I did, it always seemed forced. The man‘s expression thus made it impossible to mistake him for Alpha Grey. Who was this person? And could I trust him?

The guards tensed immediately. Weapons raised. But none of them fired. The man stepped through the smoke like he owned the building. Long black coat. The rifle was resting lazily on his shoulder. And a smile that didn’t belong in a war zone. "Well, well, well," he said, his voice smooth and mocking. "What do we have here?" The guards exchanged uneasy glances as the man's smile widened. The kind that looked like trouble. He stepped over one of the Spanish bodies and looked around the hallway like someone entering a mildly interesting party.

I smiled. He nodded with satisfaction. As he turned toward the SUV, he paused one last time. “Oh…” I looked up. “One more thing.” He clicked his fingers . “Yes?” I raised a brow. He smiled faintly. “Sometimes…The people who smile the sweetest are the ones hiding the sharpest knives.” The words settled heavily inside my heart. Without another word, he climbed into the SUV and the engine came to life. I stood rooted to the spot as the vehicle slowly disappeared down the street.

,he said with a startling sincerity that shook me. I swallowed hard, pretending to me focused on setting up my books. "You are impossible",I muttered under my breath but his smile told me he had heard. "Anyway,let's begin now",I said briskly. And he smiled that god-damned crooked smile .My stomach flipped. "Alright",he said. He picked up the book he had been immersed in when I arrived.He handed it to me and I went through. Even his handwriting was as gorgeous as he was.

“That’s stupid and dangerous.” “I know. I mean, I took poison for half my life. This should be nothing,” I whispered to him, and he froze, color leaving his face. “Eat something. These people out there are out for blood,” I whispered to him, and his lips turned up into a smile. A smile. For me. I whispered, staring at him. “You smiled.” He cleared his throat, and his smile quickly faded as he pulled the plate closer to him. Then he started eating with a frown on his face.
