He Divorced Me On Our Anniversary

He Divorced Me On Our Anniversary

I gather papers, stacking them neatly, when I feel it that weird prickle between my shoulders. I look up. The mayor stands near the door, talking to Donavan. Too close and too friendly. Donavan is dressed like he always is. Crisp, expensive almost like dirt has never touched his shoes. He leans in slightly smiling in that calm way that makes my stomach twist. The mayor laughs making my chest tightens. I don’t hear what they’re saying, but I don’t need to. I know the look. I’ve seen it before. Grown-ups talking about decisions that don’t include the people they’ll hurt.

The Ominous: Some play it safe, heroes don't

” But I will keep that option as a last resort,” " I understand, Ms. Holston.” Mayor Pollack responded. " What, what option?” Madison asks nervously. " We’re going home,” April G said as she pulled Madison out of his seat.” " Take care you two,” Said Mayor Pollack as he closed the door behind them. Mayor Pollack locked the door and pressed his back on its surface with an unhinged weight of fear in his chest. He reached into his coat pocket, pulling out a blue shinning stone.

Creatures of THE Night

Creatures of THE Night

I bolted for the door, wrestling with the knob, freedom inches apart— —to come face to face with an Undine man and the mayor himself. "Jesus!" The Undine jerked back, wet hair nearly slapping me in the face. He fumbled with his bag, blueprints spilling out onto the gravel outside. "Who the hell—" "Quentin?" The mayor opened the door, hand grabbing my arm before I could run down the street. "Q? Answer me, boy!" "H-HE-LP!" How the fuck was he still alive? Shouldn't that asshole be extra crispy!? "By the Goddess Luna, hold on son! Hold her, Marcus!" Mayor Ethridge shrugged out of his coat, tossing me to the water nymph as he ran to his grandson. I struggled in the water nymph's arms, but he was

Maddest Temptation

Maddest Temptation

The mayor's heavily accented voice and leering made the back of my arms tingle and not in a good way. “This is my wife,” Roman introduced me, lying like the true devil he was. I remained still, praying to God that my expression was blank. Except for the delightful, fake smile. “Ana, this is Miami’s mayor, Mr. Rice.” I tilted my head in acknowledgement. “Get out of here.” The mayor patted Roman on the shoulder, the move was kind of funny since Roman was a whole head taller than him. “Congratulations. Welcome to wedded bliss.” “Or not,” Mayor Rice added, his stare cold and unflinching.

I was looking for a book to pass the time when I saw this story. Its cover and title drew me in, and then I read the blurb and got hooked. And the chapters? don't even get me started... they're perfectly written. Will definitely read more books from this author....️...️...️
SOLACE HART
I picked this book up out of curiosity, but it completely pulled me in. The characters felt real like people you might actually know, with flaws, regrets, and all the messy stuff that makes a story relatable. I found myself rooting for them, and also getting frustrated with them.

The Invisible Heir

The Invisible Heir

Was the question Julian wanted to ask. Sweat beaded on the mayor's forehead. “This… this can’t be real,” he stammered, clearly trying to act like he was in disbelief, although his voice showed the fact he knew otherwise. Julian studied the man for a second. He couldn’t be fooled, it was evident that the mayor knew who was after him, and what he had done to make them target him, and it made him have questions, “It’s very real,” Julian said seriously. “And if you don’t act carefully, tonight’s speech will be your last. Although this makes me wonder, how did you piss them off?” He couldn’t help asking.

The Secret Agent's Mafia Mate

The Secret Agent's Mafia Mate

"I don't know, maybe ...prove he really needs a bodyguard?" "Killian? he doesn't need anyone?" "Oh, come on, there has to be...." The moment the words left Flynn's mouth, Michael looked up at the TV, placed just above the billiard's table and froze, his hand with his glass mid air. "Mike?" Flynn followed his eyes towards the screen. "Yeah, that's the new mayor. People kind of like him, he’s probably the only one who’s not corrupted yet, or... “ “This person right over there is the mayor?"

undeniable. I caught a glimpse of my cousin Carmen as she made her way through the room. Sharp as ever, confidently moving from one conversation to the next. And like clockwork, there it was again, the mayor’s eyes. Tracking her. Fixated. It didn’t matter that he’d joked about how young she looked, he liked it. The intrigue in his gaze wasn’t professional. It was something else. And he didn’t stop there.

But just at that moment, she heard footsteps behind her. She turned and was surprised to see the mayor. She smiled and wanted to greet him, but then she realized that everything about her screamed Adele, and the mayor was here to kill Adele. She turned and tried to run away, but the mayor quickly caught her. "I've finally gotten you," he said. She struggled, "No, let me go! I am not...." She realized that she couldn't say that she wasn't Adele because if she did, she had to explain who she was, and that would prove to the mayor that she was guilty.

All I Want for Christmas is Pooch

All I Want for Christmas is Pooch

Brady had just finished taking a few notes on his smartphone when he heard a familiar voice. “Well, if it isn’t the new city planner!” Turning around, Brady saw Mayor Joe Jenkins headed his way, a smile on his face barely visible between the large gray scarf wound around his neck and the matching wool cap pulled down to the top of his dark framed glasses. It wasn’t quite cold enough out here for all that, in Brady’s opinion, but the mayor was a small-framed man, at least ten years older than Brady, so probably in his late thirties, maybe early forties, and it was possible he chilled easily.

Damned Straight to Heaven

Damned Straight to Heaven

He’s a heap of shit worse, and I’ve been a complicit, stupid coward, jumping along to his tune like a soulless wind up toy. “Now what about the priest here?” Bertinelli points to Father Evans. “Has he been betraying his sacred duty, using those confessions of yours for blackmail, Charlie?” He squeezes the mayor’s shoulder. “Confess to me. It’ll be good for you.” Our esteemed mayor appears frozen with shock and indecision, unable to answer, and another car is pulling up into our green-space before he gets a chance to calm his stuttering. The boss looks to the arrival with the muttered complaint, “About damn time.” He gives the man behind the wheel of the Chrysler a wave, but I can’t see who i
