Again, avoiding them is the right approach, and for the last week, it worked. I'm determined to keep things this way. I enter the library after signing in. The librarian doesn't look at me twice. We were introduced to this place in the morning, yet I'm still mesmerized by it. I love how ancient it is—these shelves hold so much information about our kind. I wonder what would happen if I read all these books. Would I become wiser? There are so many books that I don't think I could read them all if I spent twenty years in Noctem Lunae.

But logic hadn’t helped Lila. And logic hadn’t sent the message. Midnight again tonight. The location had come ten minutes later. No address. Just a dropped pin near the river—the same river from the blurry photo on the hidden account. Some places remember you. Jade’s hands shook as she swept the light across the warehouse interior. Broken crates. Torn plastic sheets. A shopping cart tipped on its side like it had been abandoned mid-escape. “This is insane,” she muttered. “What if it’s a trap?”

Luis says, announcing me, but clearly, they all decide not to think he's talking about me, but look towards the door again. "Welcome, Halo Dusk," Luis announces as he points at me. His face splits into a huge grin as he turns to me. No one reacts. All they do is stare at me and back at the door, and look around. They refuse to believe Luis is talking about me, so I clear my throat. "Hello, everyone. I'm Halo's Dusk, the writer of Midnight Library. It's nice to meet everyone." Silence. Luis's eyes move directly to me with his smile widening. They all follow his gaze again and yet, nobody moves or even breathes. They're too stunned to say anything.

*** The library at midnight was a different world. Fluorescent lights hummed. The air smelled of old paper and desperation. Mira arrived at 11:47 because she was incapable of being late. She wore black jeans and a sweater, deliberately casual. She had considered armor (blazer, heels, the full ice queen uniform) and decided against it. This was a negotiation. She needed him to underestimate her. Study room 3B was glass-walled and cold. She sat at the table, pulled out a notebook, and wrote:

Rain hammered against the windows nonstop while fog slowly spread across the road ahead. Then the hotel appeared. Winona straightened immediately. The Midnight Hotel stood in the middle of the mountains like something pulled out of an old gothic movie. Warm golden lights glowed behind enormous glass windows while fountains shimmered beneath the storm outside. The guards are predictable at this hour half-alert or half-bored, their routines ingrained and easy to avoid if you know them well enough. And I do. Tonight, I don’t want questions I wants to get answers myself. I move towards the library and pushed open the heavy wooden door to the library. It creaks softly. I freeze and wait to listen for footsteps. No footsteps. Great. I slip inside, closing the door behind me with careful precision. The library is vast, dimly lit by a few dying candles and the faint silver glow of moonlight filtering through tall windows. Dust clings to everything—the shelves, the tables, the forgotten corners where knowledge has been left to decay.

Nobody slept. Again. The rooftop family had a long history of treating major revelations as reasons to abandon healthy schedules. Elowen's library did not help. At approximately two in the morning, the entire group stood inside an impossible library that technically shouldn't exist. Rows of shelves stretched beyond sight. Floating lanterns drifted lazily overhead. Books filled every corner. Thousands. Millions. Possibly more. The creator had stopped blinking. Hope had stopped pretending she wasn't excited. The rest of us were simply overwhelmed.

I am thirty minutes late though because Theo is being such a workaholic that after the party, he still worked on some documents, before hitting the bed. I push open the door and enter. It is undoubtedly the most massive library I have ever set foot into. Unlike Pitchford and Durian’s library, the wall, ceiling, and bookshelves are all painted white. From the outside, it seems like there are only four floors, but looking down, I am actually on the tenth floor, with the basement still way, way down. There are stairs all around, tables and chairs, private areas, and a dizzying amount of books. Even if I spend a werewolf lifetime here, I won’t be able to finish all of these book collections. My
