He was already in the east corridor when I got there. Not waiting in the managed way, the Alpha King holding a position while a situation developed. Standing at the east window the way he stood at windows when something had arrived that required thinking before acting. He turned when I came in. I said: Her name is Maret. She is from the Sorvane territory. She is sixty-one years old and she has partial mark lines on her wrist that have been cold for thirty-one years and went warm the night of the confluence.

It was simply deliberate destruction. And it did not end there. It became a recurring nightmare. Every full moon they came, and before long men began to fear the lunar event. People stopped sleeping through the night. Farms were abandoned. Bells rang with no one left to answer them. With the fear came the realization that they could not fight what was hunting them. In time, five families met in secret to find a solution, a way to survive. The Stratfords, Rivenstones, Merryweathers, Grahams and one house whose name has since been erased from history.

“One way or another.” The vines began to smolder. Instead of smoke, they released a vapour—a shimmering silver mist that rose in twisting tendrils. It had a sweet, metallic smell that made my head ache instantly. “The Silver Mist does not kill,” Gorven explained coldly as the guard used a fan to direct the mist toward me. “It opens the nerves. It amplifies every sensation. Sound. Touch. Pain. It will make your own heartbeat sound like a drum. It will make a whisper feel like a scream. And then, we will ask our questions again.”

She remained silent. ​Chris nodded, a bitter smile crossing his face. "Message received." He zipped his bag, swung it over his shoulder, and walked past her without a second glance. ​Tina sat on his empty bed, his scent was still clinging to the room. She felt sick, Jude wasn't himself, and she was trapped in a life she no longer wanted, all because of her mother’s greed. ​Two days later, Eve arrived at the edge of the Everglades. She was exhausted. She had pushed herself to the limit, alternating between running as a wolf and a human to cover ground as fast as possible.

He looked up with that easy grin, holding out a muffin like a peace offering. “You look like hell,” he said. “Didn’t sleep much,” I muttered, taking it anyway. He watched me for a second too long, worry creasing his brow. I wanted to tell him. About the whispers in the dark. About Damien’s hand on my jaw. About how his voice lingered in my head, calling me mine. But the words stuck in my throat. And then, as if summoned by my silence, the air shifted. The lecture hall fell quiet, a ripple of tension spreading through the rows. I didn’t need to look up. I knew.

Samuel cast one last deep look at me before silently turning away. If love began with a mistake, then no matter how many times we tried to rewrite the story, it would only keep circling back down the wrong path. Instead of forcing it to work, it was better to go back and start over.

I didn’t see things like when you would die, it was more the immediate future, like when I was in trouble, I saw those five or ten minutes ahead, mostly the disappointment in Adara’s eyes and for now it was always a future that directly impacted me. Like mist able to blind you instantly, I too was blinded, by life, by love, by hate and by my own arrogance.

It sounds funny but I could feel them, I could sense them and Mist was confident and eager to get into it . Me on the other hand was petrified and wanted to hide behind Lex . Lex and Steel kept a protective eye on me as we made our way towards the teens . As we slowed I could pick them out without even trying . Mist stopped in front of the group. I noticed that there are around twenty of them all young males all unshifted , some look petrified and others look up for the fight .
