Gwen's POV “No! No! No!” I continuously kept on saying. With every word I said, I took a step back. I almost lost my balance if not because of Ricky who supported me from behind. Nanny Rose lay on the floor in her own pool of blood, and the room's window was wide open. Ethan and Evan were not in their beds, and I could feel my heart breaking into little pieces. I released myself from Ricky's grip and ran towards the window.

Gwen’s POV: The Blackwood night was drizzling, wrapped in a thick, heavy fog. The main avenue stretched out completely deserted, devoid of a single soul. Standing beneath the yellow, flickering glow of a streetlamp, I looked up at the bleak, gray sky and gently ran my fingers through my white hair. Tonight, I was empty-handed and cast out, yet my chest felt lighter and more brimming with vitality than ever before. The ruthless world of Blackwood was out there waiting for me. I couldn't hide the shock and confusion swirling in my depths. I inhaled, feeling a shiver ripple down my spine as I peered once more at the dark starless gloomy sky. I watched as Gwen took the blade and pressed the sharpness of it to her neck. “Your death is the only you can be reborn,” Without hesitating, she slits her throat and her body falls back into the lake, her blood mixing with the water.

Stefan’s POV It’s not until I watch the flames engulf her body that all hope dies within me. Gwen is gone. She is dead. When I saw her at the castle two nights ago, I thought I had time. Now, I have all the time in the world, but I don’t have her. I have nothing. And it’s all my fault. If I’d never let her leave, this would not have happened. Heck, if I’d left her alone that night I found her at the nightclub, she would be alright.

One by one, I started removing them - link after link, trace after trace, name after name. When the last strike landed, destruction followed fast. Up I got, heading toward the window to gaze across the estate - same place where everything went wrong only a day before. My fingers touched the pane, meeting its quiet chill. Gwen used to hunt. Now shadows follow her steps through empty streets. Now she was the prey. It turned out I was chasing after it instead.

She sat down on her seat and sighed, then glanced at the book. It was dark-covered, and the title was written in a language she couldn’t understand. When she opened the book though, she could read what was written inside. There were so many chapters of different spells, and most if not all made use of blood. The more she flipped pages, the more shocked she became. She didn’t know if she should feel disgusted at the gory acts or in awe of how it is carried out.
