Beyond Night
August spotted the object he spoke of, half hanging on a low branch of a tree, and his heart skipped a little.
“That scares you two?” August sighed out hard and a few birds flew at his vulgar exhalation. “I see a stone altar covered in blood and moss before me, and you are afraid of a few damned bones?”
Both brothers exchanged a look and stood at attention, trying to wear a face of concern for the altar. “Any thoughts on that, then?” They said in unison.
August opened his mouth to answer, but he looked back beyond the altar and gagged. “Good Lord, what is that?”
