He thought about the library girl of eleven who had held the book unopened for five weeks. He thought about the threshold person, the child at the edge of the room's life rather than its centre. He thought about the corner as the chosen place of the child who needed the room but needed the room's margin rather than its middle — the attending from the edge, the belonging that did not require the centre.

I remain in class, silent. Firstly, I don't have a crew unlike my days back in school when I hung around with Nia, the only girl who wasn't insecure enough not to be with a baddie. Secondly, my meal ticket has limited funds so I can't afford to go to the cafeteria as I want. “Hey,” a familiar voice calls from behind. I turn to see it’s Cornor. Without sparing him a second glance, I turn to my books. It's almost like the first time I'm genuinely reading. I'm either chasing after Enzo Macini or getting fucked by my mystery man.

I’ve managed to make it through quite a few hallways this way, and I’m almost at my destination—the library. Luckily, it’s empty, so I sneak around each bookshelf looking for a section of shelves that resembles what the prisoners had described. Finally, I see it. Way over in the corner is a blank wall that looks just a little out of place since every other wall is covered with bookshelves.

“Well, Zeke’s a nice enough guy but maybe not the sharpest needle in the haystack. One of many reasons we only briefly dated.” The two dug into their meals, and Brad had to admit to himself that Bias was right, the food was absolutely delicious. Spicy and flavorful. Bias was scarfing down his food as if he were going into hibernation soon. “Speaking of you being a famous writer,” Bias said when he finally came up for air, “after you left Book Lady yesterday, I picked up another one of your books.” “Really?
