River, too, is watching me closely, his earlier frustration replaced by a look of interest that surprises me.
“We’ll find them,” Akin says quietly, his voice filled with quiet determination. “Whatever it takes, we’ll find them.”
I nod, squeezing his hand in return, though the unease remains.
My mother stands, her expression resolute as she addresses the council.
“We have much to consider, but for now, we must focus on ensuring the barrier remains strong. Maerilee and her Ones, however many there may be, will be the key to our kingdom’s future.”
The council members nod in agreement, and Mother adjourns the session. But the question lingers in the back of my mind: Where are the other two Ones?
