Moon Touched
“It’s Ember. She wasn’t gone. That’s how we felt the pain, she was still there.”
I braced myself.
Then we saw it, a massive pool of blood near the shelter. It soaked the earth. Still fresh.
“Don’t,” I said quietly. “Onyx, please.”
But he stepped forward anyway. He sniffed once. Twice. And then he knew. We both knew.
Our howl ripped through the forest. It was a sound born of grief, of rage, of failure. Of love lost and stolen.
Onyx didn’t hesitate. He tore into the woods again, following the scent trail like a starved hunter.
