Donato spun around, but nothing was there. His pulse thundered. His breaths came short. He turned back to the pedestal— and nearly choked on air. Because the book was open. Its pages turned on their own. Slowly, deliberately like fingers of wind were flipping through fate. "No…" he whispered. "Stop." But the pages turned faster— faster—until they slammed onto one single page. The writing etched onto it shimmered like liquid black fire. And the temple whispered into his bones— "Three will go forward…

He kept his look consistent until she hesitantly let up on the stranglehold she had on the book and given it over to him. He reclined and flipped through the polished pages, stopping to a great extent prior to smiling innocently up at her. He looked so stunningly attractive that briefly she didn't understand that he was conversing with her. "My apologies, since I didn't exactly get what I am seeing through you right now." She murmured and his smile extended as he flipped the book toward her, tapping his long pointer on the image of a smiling dark Labrador retriever. "I had one very much like this," he informed and she scowled.

Just then Evelyn came forward and said, “Sarah, give Asher in my arms, it’s my turn.” A minute later Ronald yelled, “Carol, now give Arabella to me, now it’s my turn.” “Granny Evelyn, it’s my turn,” Stella said. “No, it’s my turn,” Jack said. “No, it’s my turn,” Valerie said. With a loud smack on the table, she fumed, “Oy, the hell you think you are?! You ruined my perfectly good door!” The group was made out of about ten or so men who were all dressed in suits. The one in the middle, who looked about in his thirties, was wearing a pair of shades. Just one glance at him, and everyone could tell that he was a bigshot disinterested in friendly chats about the weather. Even the men behind him looked pretty cool, if not intimidating. Their presence ushered a change in mood. Suddenly, the Turners froze, their indignance fizzling out. One of them, a middle-aged man, turned pale and dove behind his family’s backs, as though worried that someone might notice him.

The man's face flushed with embarrassment as he quickly backed away, retreating to the back of the crowd. "Pregnant women are already prone to complications. If any of you are willing to take responsibility for her, I'll arrange a table right now," I said, scanning the room. When I met their eyes, they quickly looked away. I sneered internally. Just moments ago, they were all standing on their moral high ground. But as soon as they were asked to take responsibility, none of them dared to speak up. Just when I thought I had managed to avoid Zoey's miscarriage in my restaurant, Laurence suddenly shoved me.

Without wasting any time, Colin shoved the rag back into their mouths and dragged them into the bedroom, like he was hauling dead dogs. In the bedroom, several barrels of gasoline were set up. I could not believe my eyes as I finally realized that he was going to burn them alive. My adoptive parents also realized the danger and struggled desperately, but it was useless. My aunt and uncle dragged my parents aside. “Shut up! One more word and you’re out of my house!” Since this was the final round, the room fell into a suffocating silence, quiet enough that a pin drop would echo. At the same time, Taylor and I picked up our dice cups, and the crisp clatter of dice bouncing inside filled the room. She stared at me dead in the eye. Neither of us wanted to put our cup down first. My arm was starting to go numb from shaking. I couldn’t be bothered to drag it out anymore and shouted, “Open!”
