Celius's words just made me conscious of my location and what I was doing at that point. I watch him open a book and cast a wary gaze in his direction. It is magical because as soon as he opens it, golden lightning bolts appear. Yet, he stops on one page after flipping a few of the pages. After that, he tears a few more pages before closing the book.

ELLA The pages of the spell book glitter and shine as I flip through them like they have never done before. Gently I turn the pages one by one, mumbling the names of the spells as I pass them by. “Summoning Spell… Tracking Spell…” The symbols on the page morph and transform into readable words before my eyes.

My eyes traced the same page again and again. The girl sitting across from me flipped through six pages in the time it took me to understand one definition. My jaw tightened. I reached for my phone. My thumb hovered over one app before pressing it. The screen opened immediately. Simple and clean with no bright colors, no unnecessary buttons. Exactly the way Raphael had designed it. The app read every paragraph aloud while highlighting each word one at a time. The font automatically changed into one my brain found easier to process. Long paragraphs broke themselves into smaller pieces. Important concepts appeared as diagrams instead of walls of text.

The book's title is 'Herbals of the Northern Ridge', and as I stare at the front cover, I wonder if it would have what I'm looking for. Opening the book, I begin flipping the pages but after a while of searching and not finding anything, I suddenly remember that it would be easier if I would go through the index page. So I close the pages I'd opened and go to look at the index page, runningy gaze over the words showing the chapter titles and content line by line. Then finally my eyes land on a chapter title which reads 'COUNTER POISEN'. Balancing the book in my left arm, I use my right index finger to trace the page of the title, seeing that it's at Page 284.

There was a small, hidden slot along the edge of the cover, almost invisible until you knew it was there. She took a deep breath, looked at Kael one more time, and slid the key into place. There was no loud noise, no flash of light. Just a soft, gentle click, and then the whole book seemed to breathe. The leather cover warmed, and when Elara lifted it open, the pages didn’t just show words they began to glow from within, bright but easy to look at, like sunlight through thin paper.

However, my irritation passed quickly since I needed to get some answers, the sooner the better. I placed my hand on the book and pictured Samil's seal in my mind. I closed my eyes and suddenly felt a wave of electricity flowing from my hand to the book. I opened my eyes, and saw that the book pages were starting to glow. I took my hand off from the cover and the pages began flipping by themselves. They were moving faster and faster until they suddenly stopped. I glanced at the heading of the chapter. “The demon's seal…” I read it out loud, “What the hell is a demon's seal?!”

I could feel the dark magic flowing through it and unlike the day I met Arwan and Fen, it felt like a part of me instead of a foreign invader. As if sensing me not knowing where to start or how to find the information I needed, the book pages began to flutter. I watched curiously as the fluttering increased and the pages started rapidly turning before suddenly stopping. It had turned itself to a page filled with an image of a vampire. It looked human, if it hadn't been for the heading, I wouldn't have known what it was. I whispered thanks to book, shaking my head at the notion of talking to it, and eagerly began to read.

I ask. "That will be way too heavy" she sighs. She hasn't exactly made things easy on herself, one looks like it's at least 600 pages. "Ever thought about getting one of those e-reader thingies? They hold all your books on one device" I say, gesturing behind the counter to a display of different screens. She smiles slightly before going back to the covers in front of her.

Dakari squeezed her hand. Luca lifted a hand to turn the page and reverently lifted from the corner. His hand did not shake as he confidently attempted to move the parchment. This was obviously not his first time dealing with old books. To his surprise, he met no resistance. The page that had been so secure now turned like it was bound only hours ago.
