The Previous Life Murim Ranker Novels & Stories

Marcus and Lurii. But they were distorted. Lurii’s face was soft, lacking the sharp, cosmetic edges and the expensive filler she’d acquired in her twenties. She looked like a girl, her eyes wide with a performative worry that I now recognized as her primary survival mechanism. And Marcus... He looked like the boy I had first fallen for at the library basement, fresh-faced, handsome, and seemingly earnest, not the monster who had calculated my value in billions while I choked on my own blood. A dream, I thought, my mind reeling. The poison. I'm hallucinating the past as I die. My brain is misfiring, giving me a slideshow of my regrets before the lights go out for good.

Does that mean two of us will be in the same tier? And why are they called tiers anyway? Is this some attempt to categorize us based on intelligence? It doesn’t make any sense–especially considering I only had the chance to answer one question. “For Pinecone, Trixie Johnson.” This time the applause is a little louder. Apparently Trixie is a crowd favorite. “For Oak, Brynn Davies.” Brynn sucks in a quick breath. “I got picked?” “Congrats,” I tell her as I clap along with everyone else.

The applause never got too loud. The screen kept scrolling. Each name felt like a countdown. My own name was coming. I could feel it like a knot in my chest. "Mary Everborne," Alpha Magnus called next. "Rank 6. Strength rating: 4 out of 10." Mary’s chin trembled as she stepped forward. She looked like she wanted to disappear.

Now that I know that Matteo will marry me only for my power and then body shame me and neglect me through out our marriage and then fuck my best friend behind my back, he is never getting his filthy hands on my influence. Raffaele is my target now. I will use him and use the entire Moretti family until they are all at my feet begging for mercy. Each one of them will pay. Starting with Nicoló and Bianca Moretti. That witch and her husband made my life a living hell. They will pay with everything they have. And then I'll deal with Matteo and Valentina specially. They'll regret ever crossing me. Raffaele will just be a bonus. A price for ruining his family.

But the question is, would I survive the next one? On a large screen, ranking displays, and I watch my name read until it hits 20 and stops. “Congratulations, you are now among the top twenty,” the digital voice announces. “A few more fights and you’ll hit the top 1.” I gawk at the ranking list, and there he is, ‘The Reaper’. The top 1 fighter, the bastard who killed my father.

“Maybe we are in some alternate reality. One where he has to bed ALL the women, not just all the women who aren’t me.” Val clicked her tongue disapprovingly. “He didn’t bed all women. Mimi wasn’t very fond of him in our first life. Called him a scoundrel all the time.” I chortle at the memory, “She wouldn’t touch him with a ten-foot pole.” “She might have beaten him with one, though,” Val snorted. I giggle out loud at the thought. “Everything alright, Luna?” Mimi asks me, looking at me strangely while organizing wedding presents on the table for me to open later.

So I do. "I guess I should educate you since you have amnesia. In the academy, we're divided into six ranks. And each rank has three tiers. We're in the third rank. Just three ranks left before we can graduate. The tiers are according to the level of our strength and abilities. I'm at Tier 3, which is the lowest. Uriel is at Tier 1 just like you." I gulp. Me? Tier 1? Now that is terrifying. "What about Rhydar?" I ask, and he shrugs.

The Rank 3 Ancestor Ranked Dark Race roared at Lucas and Linda. "That's right. So, what are you going to do about that?" Lucas nodded. "I want to take your lives!" The Rank 3 Ancestor Ranked Dark Race let out an exasperated roar. After saying that, the Rank 3 Ancestor Ranked Dark Race rushed towards Lucas and Linda. Even Linda could easily kill the Rank 3 Ancestor Ranked Dark Race, let alone Lucas. Additionally, Linda was a Rank 5 Surpasser. A Surpasser was on par with Ancestor Ranked Dark Race beings!

He pointed his fingers, "Anyway, for people with 50 to 70 necro, they are C rank, 70 to 90 are B rank, 90 to 120 are A rank, 120 to 150 are S rank, 150 to 250 are double S rank, while 250 to 500 are triple S rank. In Lumiere city, there are only five triple S rank." "Who are those?" "Zyrus Valencia, Marco, the city lord and I forgot the other two, but they are the glorious five of the Lumiere City." "Is there someone who's necro is above 500?" "There is." "Reeve Giraudus, I think he has more or less 1,200 necro." "That's a lot." I shook my head off and smirked, "Guess there's no way to be like him eh?" He snapped his fingers and grinned. "I wouldn't say that for sure."
