“You scared me, you know. When I thought I’d lost you, I—”
“You didn’t,” I interrupted gently. “You never will.”
He smiled faintly, though it didn’t quite reach his eyes. “You can’t promise that, Kora. Not after everything we’ve been through.”
“I can,” I said, resting my hand over his. “Because next time, we fight together. No more running into danger alone.”
He gave a soft laugh. “We’ll see who breaks that promise first.”
