“You’re leaning a little too hard into your nature side there, Evangeline.” I laugh, a light, musical sound that fills the car. “What can I say? I heard the man was an old, grumpy, ruthless scavenger. This man right here was young and good-looking. Too good-looking that it had him feeling very smug about it. “I'm the rogue prince,” he said like he read my confusion. “Declan. And you are?” I bit back the urge to cuss at him again. His silly mockery was hitting on all my nerves. A typical rogue bastard! He chuckled. Deep. “Right. You can't talk. I'm sorry. But it's cool. I already know who you are.”

Then again, looking innocent and genuinely meaning her no harm were two very different things and Adira knew better than to think otherwise.
