Narin replied, winking at me before taking a bite from her burger. “Stoooop!” I was a red, giggling mess hiding my face in my palms. “You guys…you really need to calm down!” Clyde was trying, and failing successfully, to hide the red tint on his cheeks while he spoke. “I’m just looking out for Nyx…” He pulled his chair closer, eyes darting side to side before lowering his voice to a whisper. “…she’s the first shifter in our group and we all know shifters are not as exposed to spells like witches, faes, or even vampires.”

Logan gave him an occasional glance before saying, “We need to figure out what to do with you. You can't just stay here forever.” Kai sat cross-legged on the floor beside the couch, listening to him with rapt attention. Logan continued, half to himself. “You can't stay in a shelter’s. You don’t have an ID. Hospitals’ll just call the cops. And I’m not exactly rolling in cash.” Kai frowned. "Logan... worried?" “Worried doesn’t even begin to cover it.” He glanced at Kai—and froze. There was something strange about Kai’s arm. There was a faint shimmer, almost like a bruise, but it moved, sealing shut rapidly. Logan blinked, and it was gone.

I think I might be sick. Shivel grabs Tiffany's hand and raises her to her feet, presenting her to the audience. "The winner and reigning champion of the Texas Mutiny blow job races…Tiffany Wendel!" He hands her a glass of dark liquid and she takes the shot, grimacing at the taste of it. She smiles at Shivel and then looks around the room at her fans. When her eyes land on mine, her smile drops and her face goes pale. I can't watch anymore. I put my beer on the small table by the door and turn on my heel, heading out of the apartment.

Patrick drew a bit closer to Tina as he asked, but Tina shifted backwards a little because even though Patrick wasn't highly dressed, he was still looking very handsome and scented so nice, and Tina didn't want to lose control of herself if Patrick mistakenly touched her, as she knew her legs would grow weak and her friends, colleagues at work, and also her parents were all around, so she shifted backward away from Patrick as Patrick drew closer to her. Patrick frowned, noticing Tina was avoiding him and shifting away from him, so he stopped and asked, "Why're you shifting away?."

“And till you find him again, I’m going to love the fuck out of you, and August will do the same for Nina.” ‘I can work with that. Do you think we could shift? When you’re ready. I’m finally free. I want to run.’ Nina’s voice was now in my head. Holy shit, it worked! ‘Um… okay. Let’s do this. I have waited years to shift.’ I agreed. Tiberius and I both groaned as I moved off his lap. “You’ve got this, Kat. I’m sure you’ve been told plenty about how the shift works. I’m happy this worked, and I get to be here for your first shift.” Tiberius assured after disposing of the condom.

Truly, bone-deep useless. I stand on the ridge above the northern valley, guards spread out below me, watching villagers work in careful coordination—ropes anchored, stones placed, voices steadying one another as the air warps and then slowly, stubbornly settles. No roaring. No shift. No Alpha command snapping the world into line. Just people… holding. My claws itch. “Don’t,” Tyla says quietly beside me. I hadn’t realized I’d started to shift. The exact opposite of what had just nearly undone her. “Who was that?” Xander asked coolly. “Uhmm, that’s Tristan. He’s the new Financial Analyst for TMP Inc., he was transferred from our branch in San Diego,” she responded almost breathlessly. “Oh, I see,” Xander said, realization hitting him as he remembered the night in the kitchen. “That was the Tristan on your phone from the other night?” He queried. Her phone buzzed against the desk, jolting her before she could reply to his question.

I smiled and went to the fridge. “Shut your stupid mouth.” Shannon stormed in. But I just opened the fridge and searched for something to eat. In reality, I was hiding my smile. Shannon is predictable, as always. She hadn’t learned how to hide her true intentions yet. That came later. “You think you are so fucking big and strong, but you can’t even shift. How fucking pathetic are you? An alpha that can’t shift.” I felt Nix come forward. “Who says?” “What?”

Although I was no stranger to stages and unfamiliar faces, this particular audience held the potential to shape the trajectory of my life, either making my journey effortless or beset with challenges. I listened to Maximus’ speech on our future and his introduction of who I am to him. He paused, and the crowd cheered wildly. There was something about one individual in the crowd that immediately captivated me. With her arms firmly crossed over her chest, she locked her piercing gaze onto me. If her intense stare had the power to inflict harm, I would have undoubtedly met my demise right then and there. I observed as she forcefully maneuvered her way past others, leaving a trail of mesmerized

She spins around, pulling her tank top off over her head. As shifters, we’re accustomed to nudity. If we shift while we’re clothed, we’ll rip right through them. I ruined my favorite shirt that way, once. All four of us dip off the path to turn away from each other and shed our clothes. I toe my tennis shoes off first, then shimmy out of my shorts. Once I’ve removed my t-shirt and sports bra, I quickly call my wolf forward.
