The Short Story Lottery の小説・ストーリー

Jacob and I arrived together, and though we didn’t hold hands, our knuckles sometimes brushed together as we walked. Across the crowd, I saw my mom and my sister Keri standing together among some other lonely women. Other widows mostly, female werewolves who had lost their mates in similar fashion, along with their children. Keri was the youngest one there. At only 15, this was to be her first time in the lottery. I tried not to think about it too much. I hoped our family name was cursed, perhaps, and Keri would be overlooked for the next five years, just as I had been.

He even took out loans to buy her bags and bought her delicious food, all for the moment they would win the jackpot. I calmly wrote down the numbers, and the shopkeeper printed the ticket for me. After paying, I took the lottery ticket and walked out of the shop. Great. Now that I had chosen the jackpot numbers, Jacob could never pick this same set of numbers again, no matter how capable he was. Satisfied, I went home and slept soundly. … The next day, Jacob sent me a message. "Quinn and I are going to buy lottery tickets. I've been keeping track. If I'm not mistaken, you and Quinn bought the lottery ticket today, right?"

I gave in to a coworker's persuasion and bought a lottery ticket while I was on my way to deliver food to a customer. Perhaps heaven finally decided to favor me, as I won 60 million dollars. I was at a loss for words when the notification appeared on my phone, instructing me to claim the prize. All I knew was that I was overwhelmed with excitement. God was finally on my side for once. I sprinted home and couldn't wait to share the good news with my wife, Morrigan Frost.
