I reached out and pressed the radio button on the steering wheel. My voice was cold, cutting through the static. "Mason Vale, do you see a ghost in your mirror?" I said coldly into the radio. Those words pierced straight through Mason's last line of composure. His car hesitated for an obvious instant on the straight. Now. I smashed the throttle down. The car tore through the air and pulled alongside him. Ahead was a chain of fast S-curves. Seeing that I was about to pass, a vicious look flashed through Mason's eyes.

And before I could touch the edge of the image, the smoke curled around it and snapped at my throat. My old friend curled its claws around me, its power pushing me into the all too familiar slumber... The gears in my head started to crank again, and I slowly dared my eyes to open. I glanced around confused and slowly lifted my hand to my left eye. I started to pant as I slowly felt around my eye, feeling nothing unusual. But the chilling emptiness of the darkness sent me bolting up. I stumbled as I used my one good eye to look around rapidly for a mirror. I looked over at the doors, one would lead to a hall, the other to a closet, so the last one should be.....

I saw no reason to add to that stress by demanding that he give me lessons in something that I’d only just accepted as real. Satisfied that Nora was ready, stable, and prepared for my return, he moved next to me. Placing his arms around me and holding me close, he turned us so that we faced the mirror. “On the other side of this mirror is time in its real form. Through this portal, we can go anywhere in history; future or past.” I sucked in air with nervous anticipation as he said in a deep and authoritative voice, “Servus, take us to November third in the year eighteen-hundred and thirty-nine.”

My hand touched the mirror I saw when I came in here, the mirror I picked my amulet from, I picked up the mirror at once smashing it on his head. He staggered back holding the back of his head where the mirror hit, I coughed massaging my neck. If I’m special and anything with powers, this is the right time I need that part of me to show up, else I’m gonna be ten feet buried in the next counting seconds.

Only it was a mind reading mirror, "what did you I came here?" I asked looking at his reflection on the mirror as I waited for the mirror to do its thing

I turned my head to him and said, “nothing.” The fine hairs on my nape rose seeing my reflection still smiling. I turned at the mirror as swift as my heart beats. In the mirror I was smiling when I wasn’t. A cold wind swept over me. My reflection was staring at me not blinking and it started flickering as the corner of my lips slowly stretched more and more forming an eerie grin. On the corners of my eyes were black veins moving and consuming my eyes turning them into the darkness of the night. My mought suddenly opened impossibly wide releasing an ear-splitting growl. The mirror abruptly exploded.

The mirror’s glass melted and formed liquid hands—the best Deyquan could describe it—which grabbed the sides of Lizzy Tillman’s head, yanked her forward . And slammed her face into the mirror. Over and over. Her hands flailed, fingers sliding off the sink’s smooth porcelain edges, feet kicking and toes skidding on tile. Next to Deyquan, Soccer Mom gasped and triggered her inhaler. Andrew muttered, “Oh God . . . ” While Sue sat and stared. As those hands slammed Lizzy’s face into the mirror once more, hard enough to jerk her whole body, and then shoved her head face-first down into the sink. The faucet knobs spun, water gushing.

The shard of mirror is now glowing in his hand like hot coal. But someone is coming. Van dives beneath his blanket. He had a queer feeling that the woman must not see him awake and holding a blazing mirror. Between the gaps of his blanket, he could see the door opening and the woman peering in. After making sure they are asleep, she leaves. The coast is now clear and Van sits on his bed to watch the glowing mirror. What’s going on here? The mirror then blazes brighter and it is now as warm as freshly baked bread.

A bright light suddenly emanated and overpowered my sight. In the next minute, I opened my eyes but the light was gone, I was now in the woods. TBC
