The hospital parking lot and the main lobby looked exactly as they always had. Doctors hurried toward the entrance carrying cardboard coffee cups, night-shift nurses exchanged exhausted stories by the elevators, and patients moved slowly through the revolving glass doors. The air smelled of industrial bleach and rain. Nothing had physically changed.
