I have never seen such a hot summer. The heat fills me all over until my body practically melts. The sun is shining so brightly that it almost obscures the summer blue sky. The air is clear, as only in summer it can be. The colours shine around me. They make me feel as if the moment of ripening and blossoming has arrived, we are in the full bloom of nature and I am here abandoned and alone.

Beatrice said in a low tone and Maria screamed again. "I'm 101% sure you haven't checked your email, girl, we are at the top already!" She screamed and Beatrice still couldn't understand her words properly. "Maria Sebastian, talk to me calmly like a reasonable person" Beatrice said in a cold low tone as she was pinching her eyebrows in frustration. "I checked my mail today and I found out, the school has given us a year cut off, as a prize for being the best student of the year over our seniors. So, if we resume next week, we are among the finalist, just one session left and we are done with school"

Every instinct screams at me to turn back to the safety of the bridge. The canopies of the remaining pods suddenly open, exposing my companions still in hibernation, utterly unaware of the impending danger. The monitors have either malfunctioned, or this is a safety device. I force myself not to panic as my breathing becomes labored from the lack of oxygen. I have almost reached Beth. Tomorrow I plan to go for an early walk on the sands, as the heat starts to get stronger and stronger in the afternoon. It's late, and the summer triangle formed by Altair, the eye of the flying eagle constellation, Deneb, the swan's tail, and the star Vega are already high in the sky.
