I listened attentively as the person read and read from the wonderful book for me. Another person came into the room too. And the person whispered sad things in my ear. The person kept apologizing for something I had no idea about. Several people came in and out but for hours I laid there waiting and eager to hear the voice of the person I had nicknamed my Sun. Everyone else was sad. They all kept begging me to wake up but none gave me a reason to want to. My Sun was different though. He was always vibrant and cheerful. Yes, He. I figured it out when I heard someone calling him by his name.

Smiling weakly at her he would look straight ahead. Bright sunlight illuminated the street behind them. Elaina turned in her seat to watch the sun rise in the East. She was so used to it rising ahead of her that she almost thought that somehow they had got turned around. She watched with wide eyes as it continued to rise higher turning the clouds in the sky bright shades of orange, red, and pink. Almost like fire. Elaina thought to herself. She immediately remembered what the book she had stolen from Tonya had said and let a shudder run through her.

The sun rose warm and bright, as if celebrating with them, as if welcoming them back to the land of the living. Elara stood on the ridge, watching the sun rise, feeling its warmth on her face, marveling at the simple miracle of being alive. "Correct. That's where we're from. North. But why does the sun rise in the South?" Huh? In the south? I looked in the direction where the sun rose, yes it was. He is the opposite of where we come from. That means, the sun rose in the south? "Impossible, right? The sun rises in the east, which means we don't come from the north but from the west!" Okay. That's confusing. The Mediterranean Sea is in the north part of the desert, it must be north. But since it's impossible for the sun to rise in the south... that means we're from the west!

Then, the golden sun broke through the clouds, and the entire world was covered in brilliant light. It was breathtaking. I sat there, watching the radiant sunrise as my breath grew shallower, and my body became weaker. Until the end, when there was nothing left, my lungs gave out. Leaning in his arms, I took one last look at the man I loved. "Evan, don't cry…" As the sun rose, my trembling hand, caressing his cheek, fell for one last time. "Melody! Melody, wake up! Didn't you say we'd go see the aurora together? Melody!"
