He Can't Forget Me
He is placed on a stretcher, while doctors and nurses begin to assess his injuries.
"Where is my wife?" he asks, feeling more and more exhaustion creep up his arms and legs.
"Wife?" one of the doctors asks.
Maxmilian bites his lip. Of course, to the whole world, the businessman was a widower. He coughs, pretending to be confused and incoherent (and indeed he was) before correcting himself:
"I mean... The girl who... Who is going to have a child of mine. We did a surrogacy deal."
The lying words sound like poison on his lips, but it was more convenient to make up a story than to tell the sad, complicated truth.
