It was nothing to challenge Selene for a duel because, it was wolves tradition to honor a duel between two wolves thereby if none of them wanted to back out from the fight, there was nothing anyone could do other than acknowledge them fight. The ten minutes submission was a common practice also, if one of the opponents was down, the attacker only had ten more minutes to render them completely useless and after that, they were dragged away so as not to cause death to the opponents who couldn't fight anymore. There was no victory in beating up a harmless person who couldn't fight anymore. So Christian wasn't able to do anything when Selene was down, he had to wait till the ten minutes expires
