The Thing That Wouldn't Leave Novelas e Histórias

I eyed the doctor who kept speaking without emotions. I would've chucked the notepad at him but I doubted anyone would appreciate that. I knew he was just doing his job but what he'd just said didn't make sense to me. Why would I leave something alone? Something with enough force to put me to sleep for 5 days straight. I grabbed the note pad and managed a very small space to write what I couldn’t say. It was so frustrating to not be able to speak. "Why won't you just tell me what happened? All of you!"

But soon, we’d leave. And when we did, they’d realize they hadn’t broken me. Not yet. Not ever.

Just because I refuse to talk about it doesn’t mean it ever really goes away. Britney never left my mind. Just like Audrey won’t.

Something worth protecting. And God help me, I didn’t want to leave.

I did that years ago, but not anymore. “I won't leave again,” I affirmed, in case they still don't believe me. “Not even if you ask me to leave. I'm going nowhere.”

Eyes still fixed on his screen, Jerry asked absently, "Who was that?" "Jimmy Norwood from the Warwolf pack. He needed me for something." He let out a vague hum, barely registering my answer. This time, I didn't even bother calling him out on it. I tapped out my resignation letter on my phone. "Why didn't you light the calming incense? You know how stressed I've been at work. I can't sleep without it." He finally looked at me, and I could see the blame in his eyes. "I was busy. I forgot."

And once it did— It refused to leave. Not a murder.

Matthew called several times, he sent messages, and my mother called too; but I didn't respond. Natasha, my sister, called countless times, but I didn't want anyone to stop me or talk me out of leaving. Then, the updates on social media started. I watched my life implode right in front of me. But there was no going back. I had to get away from Matthew Smith. I waited at the airport waiting area, hoping no one would spot me until I was gone.

What happened to all the things he said about not being able to survive if he lost me? My stomach churns at the thought, my instincts kicking in and telling me that something is going on that he didn’t talk about. Is it something important? Is it the reason he let me go? I’m leaving tomorrow… Leaving tomorrow… Leaving… I shake my head, trying to rid myself of the words, but they continue, echoing over and over and over until I can’t think of anything else. He’s leaving.
