I spurted, holding my breath as a silence so loud it was deafening filled the other end. “Like what?” The umbrella man barked and I jolted in my seat, my heart hammering in my chest enough for my hands to shake. The thing that was not an umbrella at all, instead some abominable contraption of poisoned needles that we're packed with enough poison to paralyze a fully grown grizzly, leaving men with just enough sensation to feel their skin being stripped from their skeleton in every nerve. “Like the villain,” I whispered, barely able to breathe and shuddering when only his ragged breathing came from the other end.

I turn around after pushing the button. Looking out the window, I see whole sections of the academy's outer courtyard opening and tall white towers coming from the ground. A spark starts at one tower before jumping to the next and then to the next. In only a few seconds, thousands of sparks jump from tower to tower, circling the academy. A few seconds later, beams of light shoot up from the towers and meet in the sky. They all collide before quickly falling back down and covering the whole academy. "The shield is up," I say. "Yellow Sun Academy is safe."

Lance Turner, captain of the swim team and the golden boy in Mystic Academy, well after Vesper," He snarled.
