My fingers curled into his shirt, anchoring myself, because I was drowning in him, in the weight of this moment.
And then—
A noise outside the door.
We tore apart like we’d been burned, breathless, shaken. The moment shattered, reality slamming back into place. I turned away, forcing air into my lungs, while Silas ran a hand through his hair, jaw clenched.
"We can't keep doing this," I whispered.
He didn’t respond right away. When he finally spoke, his voice was low, rough. "But we will."
