“It’s just the year.”
My pulse jumped.
“The year?” I echoed casually.
He nodded, distracted by the way my hands had moved to his shoulders again.
“Which year?” I asked, brushing my lips against his ear this time.
He exhaled slowly.
“The year everything changed,” he said.
I stilled slightly.
“And what year was that?” I asked gently.
He looked at me, eyes hazy with desire and a hint of something else.
“The year Jack was born.”
My heart slammed against my ribs, but my expression didn’t change.
