The Wife He Threw Away
Claire was in the hallway when she saw her, tall, beautiful, dressed in clothes that probably cost more than Claire's entire wardrobe combined.
The woman stopped in front of Claire and looked her up and down slowly.
"So you are her," the woman said. "The wife."
"I am Claire," she said carefully. "And you are?"
"Vanessa," the woman said, like the name alone should mean something. "Nathan's real relationship. The one that actually matters."
Claire felt her stomach drop, but she kept her face steady.
"I think you should discuss that with Nathan, not with me."
Vanessa laughed, short and cold.
