"Briana, Dad came to see you. Be good over there, okay?" A gust of wind blew loose one of the daisy petals, carrying it gently onto the gravestone. Dad froze. Slowly, his eyes reddened. He looked up, his voice trembling slightly. "Is that you, Briana?" I looked down at my increasingly transparent body and smiled softly in midair. "Thank you, Dad." Then I turned and walked toward the light. Behind me, the little bouquet of daisies swayed gently in the wind.

She shut her eyes, thinking quickly. “It’s… um… a very big festival happening tomorrow night in Nightspire City, okay? Music, lights, everything. And I need to be there,” Lilith said quickly before she continued walking again. “Can I come along?” Alina suddenly asked. Lilith stopped so hard she almost hit the door. She turned to Alina, eyes wide, then burst into uncontrollable laughter. “Why are you laughing?” Alina asked, confused and slightly offended. “You? Come with me? Sweetheart, don’t tell me you’re planning to kill me,” Lilith said, still laughing.

I called, my voice doubled again, that eclipse echo. "It's Lila. It's Elara. Pack?" The humming stopped. A voice, soft, from the dark: "Lila? Is that you?" Not Maya. It was younger. Maybe 12. "Sparrow?" Elara gasped. Sparrow was one of the little ones. 11, no mark yet.

“Oh, thank the Celestial Heavens! Because if you didn’t like Luci, you wouldn’t have liked the other nickname I gave you.” Loki’s head shot up, crawling to the end of his bed, yet far enough so I did not strangle the little prick. “What’s the other nickname?” he giggled. “Lurch.” Loki and I looked at each other, not understanding the new name. “You know, from the Addams Family? ‘Their creepy and their kookie, mysterious and spooky….” Uriel continued to sing the theme song from the human television show, Loki rolling on the bed with his arms on his stomach, laughing.

But my body didn’t care. “Wow, Lila,” he said in that deep, rough voice as he walked closer. His smile was slow and dangerous. “Look at you. All grown up.” I tried to smile back like it was normal. “Hey, Uncle Marcus. It’s been a long time.” My voice sounded a little shaky. I hoped no one else noticed. He laughed softly, and his eyes moved over my sundress. “Uncle, huh? You don’t have to call me that here. Just Marcus is fine. You look… different. In a good way. Dangerous, even.”

She gives me a funny look when she says that as if she has an opinion she isn’t sharing. “Lilly” someone calls as I stand at the edge of the yard where the trees start. Calley went to get drinks and told me to stay here so I’ve done just that, I’m in the very same spot. The same person calls Lilly again and I look around to see if anyone piques interest at the name but they don’t and I don’t realise it’s me they are referring to. Not until the fifth time I’m called. I turn trying to find the person calling to me when I’m grabbed from behind and dragged into the trees kicking and screaming.

I nodded, “welcome, I’m sure you’re not use to the cold temperatures of the north, since they found you so deep in the south.” She smiled, “it is very cold here, but I’m sure with a little help I’ll get warmed up,” she blinked, and her scent became stronger. I arched a brow, “I’m sure it won’t take very long,” I cleared my throat, she is bold that’s for sure, I may be a horny fucker, but I like a bit of a chase, “you have a name?” She giggled and it sounded a bit strange, so I shook it off, “Lilith, but my friends call me Lilly,” she smiled at me.

I try not to show my obvious fear and wonder at it. He moves to one of the chairs circling in front of the fire and gestures for us to sit before doing so himself. He sits back looking on waiting for us to explain and Zylith does just that. She doesn’t brush over anything going into great detail about all we know so far about the rogues and even going as far as explaining my unique situation. She tells him about my abilities and tells him that I have named it the call. He looks at me in examination for the entire briefing about my abnormality.

I murmured to myself, my anticipation buzzed to see their confused faces as sparkles showered over them—it wasn't every day you got to glitter-bomb a bunch of uptight bloodsuckers. From the bathroom fortress, Linda's voice crackled through the phone. "Stephi, tell me you're seeing this!" A vampire who staggered into a pile of marbles, cartwheeling like a deflated balloon, had me silently convulsing with laughter. "Oh, I see it," I answered, trying to keep my voice even. "Looks like my Home Alone-themed defenses were more effective than your skepticism predicted."
