“Nic Nic, are you going to read to us again?” “Um, I’m not sure sweetie,” Stix says looking around and when she spots me she sends me a questioning look. I give her a thumbs up; there is nothing going on that Alison and Emma can’t handle and smile when a few more kids run across to her, each shouting out loudly which book they want her to read from the shelf running along the wall.

Just the grandeur alone was more than enough to knock the breath out of my lungs. I have never seen a library this big before. The one back in the pack wasn't even a quarter as big as this. The shelf towers high as if it were meant to be used by angels. Or maybe fairies. Anything with wings. I won't say that I love reading. But I do read a lot, and I have read the little books my mother left behind over and over again for over dozens of times. Seeing this much book all in one place. Is this heaven?

There was a ladder which the library workers used to access and take care of the books, and I wondered just how many books were held in this library. Billie led us deeper until we got to an empty hall. "It's huge, right?" she said, taking in my expression. "I once got lost during my first few times here." I found a small rag and dusted the large desk, while Billie took care of the seats. "There's probably a billion books here," I muttered, and she smiled. "Thirty thousand four hundred and twenty-one," she said, and I furrowed my brows. "What?" "Thirty thousand four hundred and twenty-one," she echoed. "That's how many books we have in here."

“But both are Nintendo, so the vibe here is still good” “How about books? Do you have a favorite?”, she asks. “Grapes of Wrath”, I answer and her shock over my answer doesn’t go unnoticed. “You”? “The Great Gatsby”, she says. Wow, that’s depressing! “So tragic”, I told her. “Speak for yourself”, she says, and we both laugh again because both books are probably equally depressing! “Favorite movie?” I asked her. “Love, Actually”, she says sadly. “Serious? Isn’t that a little before your time?” I said.

But just to be safe I need him completely out of the picture. Footsteps echo behind me. “Look what the cat dragged in,” a deep, smug voice says. I turn slowly. Theodore Carrington stands at the bottom of the stairs, an arm wrapped around a young lady. She can’t be more than twenty six. Blonde, polished and decorated like an accessory. His smile is razor thin. “I see your ratio of scandal to ambition is still intact,” he says. “Trying to sling yourself into places you don’t belong.” I grin lazily. “And I see you’re still dating children, Theodore. Always a pleasure.”

It will not become messy and it would not be much of a burden to my friends who were working and organizing books in the library. "Which one? A3?" Amanda smiled as I approached the counter where she is. I nodded and she got the set of books having 8 books in total for that subject. That A3 group consists of the subjects relating to one of our Math subjects. "Here it is, my beautiful Rebecca." "You, too Amanda. You're beautiful and please don't stress yourself out when working here. I know you have a lot of students to deal with."

I doubt death changed his methods much. I read it a fourth time anyway, at my desk, with the city going dark orange outside my window and my father's old shipping charts still bolted to the wall behind me because I've never gotten around to taking them down. Gulping, she said, “It’s your business.” “Yes.” I leaned in and questioned, “How is your writing going, Ella? Have you had any responses from the publishing houses yet?” “I got three.” “And? Are you going to go with any of those?” “Yeah, I will.” Her face lit up whenever she talked about what she loved and I loved seeing her like this, cheerful and happy and open. “They’re good in the publishing market and great for romance books.”
