It scared her more than any creature in the dark ever had.
On the third day, the cupboards started to look like the aftermath of a siege.
“We have enough canned goods to survive the apocalypse,” Luca said, frowning into the shelves. “But if I try to feed you beans again, Umbra’s going to go on strike and you’re going to help him.”
“Umbra will eat anything,” Althea said.
Umbra, sprawled by the door, snorted as if he took offense.
“There’s a town fifteen minutes down the road,” Luca said. “One sad supermarket, one pharmacy, one bar that looks like a bad decision. I can go and be back before you even miss me.”
