The days after the trap were quiet. Too quiet. The evolved infected were gone. The Apex had retreated. The survivors were slowly rebuilding, trying to find some semblance of normalcy in a world that had been shattered. But I couldn't rest. I couldn't stop watching the horizon, waiting for the Apex to return. I couldn't stop feeling the marker pulsing beneath my skin, warning me of dangers yet to come. And I couldn't stop noticing the changes in Adrian. It started small.

"This is the Elysium Refuge. I'm in charge here." Elysium Refuge. I had heard that before. In the third year of the apocalypse, it became the largest and most stable human settlement known to exist. Rumor had it that it was equipped with a complete defense system, ample food supplies, and even had an ongoing research of the virus. "How did I..." I began, my voice hoarse. "Our scout team found you in the ruins," Iris said, her gaze studying me closely. "You were running a dangerously high fever. Your skin was cracked and healing in cycles. We almost thought you wouldn't make it."

Jane was the first to react, cursing at me, “You bitch, what nonsense are you spouting—an ability? Go die!” David immediately turned to Victor with forced respect. “Mr. Kane, my nephew has a fever. He’s probably about to awaken an ability too. Please kill Apple and avenge my son! Our whole family will follow you to the death and do whatever you command!” “I can die right now.” I looked Victor straight in the eye. “No one knows how many years this apocalypse will last. But I can promise you this—you won’t find anyone else who can give you clean water as quickly as I can.”

I heard a mutated beast swallowed him during a supply raid before he could even seek revenge. Five years later, as the first rays of sunlight pierced through the thick clouds and shone upon the earth, an excited voice blared over the loudspeaker. "Attention survivors! The National Academy of Sciences has successfully developed a serum to kill the zombie virus! The apocalypse is over! We have won!" Cheers erupted from the base. I stood on the city wall, watching the sun slowly rise in the distance. My parents, still full of energy, stood beside me. Dad patted my shoulder, saying with a grin, "Sweetie, how about we have a feast to celebrate tonight?"

“This shouldn’t be happening for months.” A distant siren wailed somewhere across the sleeping city. Caleb’s expression darkened. “Your return fractured the timeline.” The wind howled violently through the harbor. And then— “The apocalypse isn’t coming,” Caleb said quietly. “It’s bleeding into the present.”

[Juliet's POV] I jolted awake and gasped heavily for air. I took in the familiar-looking ceiling and bedsheets. I was in the rented apartment I had lived in for three years before the apocalypse. I felt the sun shine on the back of my hand, its warmth feeling so surreal. I picked up my phone resting by my pillow, and the screen lit up. It was July 15th, 2058—seven whole days before the apocalypse happened. I stared blankly into space for five whole minutes before my mind slowly drifted back to reality. I had truly been given a second chance at life.

He had dark curls, green eyes, and a calm smile that carried no pity. “Miss Vale?” I looked at him. “I’m Adrian Bellini. My family funds part of Professor Shaw’s closed project. She asked me to make sure you got back safely.” I remembered Professor Shaw mentioning the Bellini family once during a project meeting, but I had never met him before. “Hello, Mr. Bellini,” I said. Behind me, Dante did not follow. This time, I did not look back. The car door opened. Beyond the city, the institute waited: the lab, the project, the life I had once thought I would never live long enough to claim.

I lifted my head to see what happened to Apocalypse. To my surprise was there a big hole in the ceiling and lots of debris and rubble mixed with wooden beams. I got up and walked over to what was over of the ceiling. I heard some groans coming from under the debris. Apocalypse was barely alive and stuck under big stone pieces and wooden beams. “You have to do better and more than this to stop me, you pathetic woman.” She coughed and spitted a clot of blood.

One thing was sure. Whatever was out there wasn't human and it had us trapped. I looked down to irena who now had her head on my lap, looking peaceful in her sleep. I was preparing for some exams but is was proponed due to covid 19 issues but now that I have till august to prepare I might update faster, thanks for bearing with me.
