Prologue II: Pyre, 3113 Pyre Av 5, 3113 Stephan Caliphus, King Everything was on fire the night he finished the book in the back room of a borrowed house. He laid his glasses down on the desk in front of him and rubbed his tired eyes. The crackling of flames could be heard as the city burned all around them. The blood curdling screams of the men in the streets where they died was enough to make the blood of the fiercest warrior run cold, but he was a man of empathy and it hurt him more than it did the others.

The circle of fire did not last any longer as the rain washed it all away in a magical and raw display of power. I was by Damien’s side in an instance as I helped him up into his feet in hopes of maybe escaping so we can live to fight another day or at least run to make sure Freya was safe throughout all of this. “So you sent your alpha to come and fight your battle’s huh…it doesn’t matter. It was pointless anyway, to burn the book. It is the book of origin, a book written by the Gods, it is protected from being harmed by anything, by anyone.

The book opened itself up, its pages flipping madly and at the very centre of it, a fountain of orange flames shot up about three feet in the air. ‘What the fuck!’ Jake quickly grabbed the book by the sides when a rapping came on the door.

"We learned that people who believe they alone can decide who deserves to exist usually become the worst part of it." The books began to tremble. Luna pressed both her hands against the open pages. Fire spread across the shelves. It didn’t burn paper. It traveled through words. One shelf ignited, then another, until golden flames raced through the entire House. Outside, thousands of books opened simultaneously.

The source of the flames, the torch lay fallen on its side. “Gods, what have I done?!” Mare cried, her eyes wide with panic as she shot forward to retrieve the burning torch. Perci grabbed her and at the same time, the wooden book in his hand slipped between his fingers, landing in the flames. “No!” he screamed. The book may be made from dragonwood but it was not infallible to the flames that began to lick the edges. Perci reached forward to save it, ignoring the rising fire as it consumed the dusty, dried pages of books, gaining more fuel to grow angrier.

"You need to relax so we can be able to understand what you just saw. Making false claims like pointing at nothing we only get us in trouble." "We are already in trouble," Blackwheel said. "It is just a matter of time before the smoke starts rising and we discover that there is a fire that has been burning above us without us knowing. But by then, it would be too late to quench the fire because it has already gone to far to be stopped." Blackwheel was now staring outside the window as if he was looking for a crypt bathed in an eerie bluish light. Alberto and Sophia stared at him as if they were trying to follow his line of sight.
