I stared at him intently, a silent plea in my gaze, as I waited with bated breath for the words that would change everything.
“You are easy to like at all, Alessandra,” he said, the unexpected compliment catching me off guard. A thick lump formed in my throat, and I swallowed it down, desperate to clear the air passages. “Any man would be lucky to have you,” he began, his voice a low rumble. My mind stopped working. It’s not what I want to hear, to be honest. “And marrying you...wouldn’t be a bad idea,” he whispered, dropping to one knee.
