I put one in his throat. I dragged the bodies behind the hedge, stripped one for his earpiece and rifle. Inside the earpiece, Russian: “Find the girl. Boss wants her breathing. Everyone else is expendable.” I smiled in the dark. Not tonight. I re-entered through the pool-house tunnel Mark had mentioned, came up behind the last two in the foyer. Mark was on his knees, blood pouring from his shoulder, gun still in hand. The bigger guy had a knife to his throat. I didn’t hesitate.

He dropped to his knees beside her. “Tricia… wake up…” His hands trembled as he touched her shoulder. Her skin felt cold. The sight of the blood on her chest made his breath catch in his throat.

Mark said standing and looking down at Bob who was kneeling before him. “You know, I promised myself I was going to kill you, but maybe not this day. I give up, you win. Finish me up.” Bob said spreading out his hands and looking to the sky. “That’s it,” Eli said turning to scan the battle ground when he heard Mark cry out in pain, he turned and found Mark without a head on the floor. “You son of a bitch!” He cussed and cussed and sunk his both claws into Bobs neck ripping both out in opposite directions.

When he held his neck, he realized it was already bleeding with a shallow cut on it. He had been a few millimeters away from death, and it shocked him. He widened his eyes at the cleaner who had tried to kill him. “Who the hell are you?!” Cassey shouted. He tried to get up, but X dragged him to the corner to protect him. “I’m here to take your life.” Mark knew he must take out the other two men first before going after Cassey. Just now was a great opportunity, but he missed it. Though he was frustrated that his slash missed, he had done his best.

"Thank you, Alice, for bringing her to me. You’ve been most helpful in this plan." Alice flinched at his words, but she didn’t respond. Mark, however, seemed to have reached his limit. "This wasn’t part of the plan, Ryder," he said, his voice tense. "You weren't supposed…" But Ryder didn’t let him finish. In one swift motion, he slashed Mark’s throat, the blood spraying across the forest floor. Alice's shrill screams rang throughout the quiet night. I stumbled backward in shock as Mark’s lifeless body collapsed to the ground.

A scout from a neighboring pack, one thought long scattered in the war. In his hand was a sigil drawn in dirt and blood. Not of the Broker, not of Striker. A new mark, unfamiliar but pointed directly at us. Mia stepped forward, knelt beside him, and read the final breath he whispered into her ear. Her face changed not in fear but in recognition. Running forward, I distracted one long enough for it to get his throat and rip it out. The other one was tackled by one of Lucian's beta. I kept my eyes on the threats in front of me. Mark whined behind me and struggled to his feet just as there was a loud crunch. Mark had fallen holding his hand. The black wolf stilled, then turned around and ran back towards me. I kept my attack pose before the two wolves which had injured Mark. Before they could reach me. One had its throat ripped out and the others were all dead, I could see head injuries and bones sticking out. Lucian had taken care of them.

I completely forgot I was still naked. “We were fighting off a group of rogues. One came out of nowhere and attacked Tobias. Sage jumped at him, pushing him off Tobias. Before we could get to Sage, the rogue forcibly marked her. He’s dead now. Unfortunately, this mark is permanent, but it already looks infected.” I tell Saph what happened, and she nods, walking over to Sage on the bed. Sage is still not talking, just whimpering, and clutching her neck. Saph gasps and covers her mouth as she looks at Sage’s neck.

When the Rogues stormed the pack, screams filled the air. I'd discovered the carnage while helping Alpha Cole inspect the territories and joined the fight. Under my leadership, the remaining members rallied quickly and fought back, driving the Rogues out. To keep my identity secret, I'd let Elder Levi take credit for the victory. His ring glinted in the sunlight as his voice turned grief-stricken. "This ring should have belonged to Wendy, not me! She saved our pack five years ago!" Tears rolled down his face.
