Sleep didn’t come for me that night. A terrible storm brewed outside the window, matching my somber mood perfectly. Usually, a rainstorm would have had me knocked out, but right then, it only added to my discomfort. Rain poured down, lightening flashed, and thunder clapped loudly. The wind whistled harshly, scraping bare branches against the window. I recalled the story my mom used to tell me and my sister when we were little girls. When it thundered God was moving furniture around. When lightning flashed, he was turning on the lights. And when it rained, he was crying.

My heart thundered with the thrill of it. And then— A flash split the sky. Lightning seared across the horizon, blinding for a fraction of a second. A sharp crack of thunder followed, so loud it rattled through my chest and nearly had me leaping out of my skin. Almost instantly, the sun vanished behind a blanket of dark clouds, and the sky opened up. Sheets of rain poured from the heavens, heavy and relentless, drenching my fur in seconds. It was like the Moon Goddess herself was weeping, her grief soaking the earth.

Chapter 2: Midnight Rescue The thunderstorm rolled in like an angry beast just after midnight. Rain hammered the roof of the guest house in relentless sheets, thunder cracking so violently the windows rattled. Bella curled tighter into a ball on her bed, knees drawn to her chest, breathing shallow and panicked. She hated storms. They always dragged her back to the worst nights of her parents’ marriage—the screaming matches, slammed doors, broken glass. Her mother’s sobs. Her father’s drunken rage. Alethea said with a smile. Another clap of thunder echoed through the room, making Shareeza tighten her grip around Alethea's waist. At the same time, Alethea caught sight of Sebastian furrowing his brows. It was clear he was trying to stay strong in front of his daughter, but she could tell—he disliked the storm just as much as Shareeza did. "Don't be afraid of thunder and rain," Alethea said gently, rocking Shareeza slightly in her arms. "God sends them not to scare us, but as a sign of His love. The First Crack of Thunder The storm hit in the late afternoon. Lightning split the sky, thunder rolling so hard it rattled the windows. Rain came down in sheets, hammering the roof, turning the dirt paths outside into rivers of mud. Inside the cabin, we gathered around the fire, its flames struggling against the damp. Caleb was giving orders, his voice steady as always. But I barely heard him. The storm outside had cracked something open in me. My skin prickled with electricity. My breath came short. I could feel every heartbeat like a drum pounding against my ribs. The walls pressed in, too small, too close.

Who is going to know? KILLER: That’s awesome. Chris is going there next week as well. Going to help out the newbies. Maybe I can go with and see you there.
